Two students require treatment after crash

Two students were brought to hospital with minor injuries after a collision between a school bus and a van on Monday morning.

The incident occurred on the Marlton Road just off the N11 near the Beehive pub and restaurant.

Gardai were called to the scene just after 8 a.m. and closed off part of the road to confine it to a single lane.

The collision between the school bus and the van pushed the front window of the bus in and caused it to completely shatter. The 52-seater bus was transporting 15 students to school at the time of the accident.

Four students from Dominican College Wicklow were on board and two required hospital treatment for minor injuries.

Dominican Vice-Principal Neal Martin said: 'Our thoughts are with the students involved in the accident. Two students had to be checked up in hospital but were released without any serious injury.'

The Fire services, ambulance service and gardaí from Wicklow town all attended the scene. The bus involved was operated by a private operator on hire to Bus Éireann.

An investigation has been launched into the crash.
