Theft case is adjourned for report

A Rathnew man who stole from Dunnes Stores in Enniscorthy on two occasions had his case adjourned for a probation report at last week's sitting of Enniscorthy District Court.

Darren Browne (24), with an address at Rose Cottage, Tobergal, Boolavogue, was charged with theft from Dunnes Stores, Enniscorthy, on September 10, 2013 and on October 8, 2013.

Last Wednesday, April 6, he pleaded guilty to the charges and the court heard that on one occasion he stole €35 worth of goods from Dunnes while on the second occasion the goods stolen were worth €23.32. Only the goods valued at €35 were recovered.

Solicitor Macarten O'Gorman said he had concerns about Browne's understanding of the situation, saying he had had an operation on his head because he had been diagnosed with meningitis.

He said Browne is a native of Rathnew in Wicklow and may consider moving home.

Judge Gerard Haughton adjourned the case until June 1 to allow for the preparation of a probation report.
