Tasty wins for local eateries
A number of popular Wicklow restaurants are celebrating this week as they picked up awards at the Leinster Regional Final of the Restaurants Association of Ireland Awards 2019.
The top restaurants in the county were revealed at an awards ceremony which was attended by representatives of over 600 establishments across the Leinster province.
Chief Executive of the Restaurants Association of Ireland, Adrian Cummins, said: 'Now in their eleventh year, the Irish Restaurant Awards continue to showcase the incredible food that is on offer in the cafes, pubs and restaurants of Ireland, as well as recognising the teams behind these establishments and the hard work and dedication that they put in. With well over 90,000 nominations received from the public this year, the standard for the judging process was higher than ever.'
He outlined that despite Ireland being a small country, it is punching above its weight in terms of the food industry.
'Ireland may be a small country but it boasts everything from fine dining to high quality gastropubs, from the comfort of traditional Irish food to exploring the world though exotic world cuisine, the Irish restaurant industry has much to offer. We have an appreciation for what we eat and where our food comes from, as well as the dedication of those working in the food industry'.
All of the Wicklow winners now compete for the Regional and All Ireland Titles, which will be announced at the Irish Restaurant Awards. These will be held in the Clayton Hotel, Dublin on Monday, May 13.
The Wicklow winners were as follows: Best Restaurant - Pink Salt Indian Restaurant; Best Chef - James Kavanagh of The Strawberry Tree at Brooklodge & Macreddin Village; Best Newcomer - Lily's On Church Street; Best Restaurant Manager - John Walsh of Pigeon House Café; Best Hotel and Guesthouse Restaurant - The Strawberry Tree at Brooklodge & Macreddin Village; Best Customer Service - The Roundwood Inn; Best Gastro Pub - The Roundwood Inn; Best Cafe - Firehouse Bakery; Pub of the Year - Harbour Bar; Best Wine Experience - La Touche Wines 4 U; Best World Cuisine - Pink Salt Indian Restaurant; Best 'Free From' - The Happy Pear; Best Kids Size Me - Tiffin by Sunil; Best Local Food Hero - Patrick Ryan of Firehouse Bakery & Breadschool; Best Emerging Irish Cuisine - Cowfish; Best Casual Dining - Pigeon House Café.
