The Arboretum Kilquade Cup golf outing was played in Delgany Golf Club on Friday, May 25.

The annual golf outing, held at the club since the 1950s, raises funds for the parish of Kilquade, which includes Delgany, Kilcoole, Newcastle, Newtown and Kilpedder as well as Kilquade.

Teams of four teed off from 9 a.m. to compete for the cup and four Tipperary Crystal glass bowls.

Conditions were perfect - as was the golf course.

After a great day of golf in wonderful conditions, the winners of the Arboretum Kilquade Cup were a team from Shanganagh Marble and Stone Centre made up by Pat O'Neill, Colin O'Neill, Derek McHugh and Barry Schweppe.

The garden centre group has provided main sponsorship for the past three years. Almost 30 other local and related businesses sponsored individual holes, 33 teams participated and many local individuals, businesses and suppliers donated funds as well as golf and raffle prizes. Additionally, a dedicated team of raffle ticket sellers, led by Pauline Murtagh, ensured the entire community was linked to this fundraiser.

Welcoming the continuing support of the local family-run business, parish priest Fr John Daly said that Arboretum's support for the parish fundraiser will benefit the whole community.

'I want to thank the Arboretum owners, Rachel and Barry Doyle and family, for again helping to fund this year's Kilquade Cup,' he said. 'This important fundraiser will contribute to parish development projects in the local churches.'

Fr Daly also thanked tee sponsors, teams, Delgany Golf Club and all those who provided donations and prizes, and the local community. He also praised the efforts of the organising committee, headed by Seamus Fitzpatrick.
