Sally Gap litter pick volunteers
Wicklow Uplands Council is organising a litter pick along a 7km stretch of the Sally Gap on the evening of Tuesday, April 16.
The event is being organised as part of the Pure Mile Competition and the An Taisce National Spring Clean, which happens nationwide in April.
The route through the Wicklow Mountains National Park, will begin at Kippure Adventure Centre and head along the Sally Gap Road (R759) adjacent to the Coronation Plantation as far as the well-known Sally Gap crossroads. To cover this distance, the group will break up into smaller teams with a mini-bus picking up and collecting along the route.
Brian Dunne, Coordinator of Wicklow Uplands Council, said: 'The Sally Gap is important not only as a route across the Wicklow Mountains, but as one of the great natural assets that this region has to offer to its many visitors and for the communities that work and reside in the area. This litter pick event has been organised to ensure that its kept in the pristine condition it deserves to be found in and all volunteers and support is warmly welcome.'
Volunteers should meet at 5.45 p.m. at the Kippure Adventure Centre. They are asked to dress appropriately for the weather and, if possible, to bring a pair of gloves. All collection bags and litter pickers will be provided.
Refreshments will be provided afterwards too.
