Six Athletes belonging to Redcross Taekwondo have jetted off to Barcelona to take part in an Open Championships involving 26 countries in all.

The youngsters are aged between six and twelve years and include two sets of brothers, Matthew and Josh Theron and Owen and Oisin Doyle. The other members also taking part are Matthew Hillman and Toby Salley.

Their coach Dave Taite believes the experience will live long in the memories of the Barcelona bound group from Redcross.

'It will be a great experience and I hope they take it all in. They are there to compete but also to enjoy themselves.

'There will be hundreds of other participants from around the world taking part so it is also a great chance for the lads to meet and make friends with different nationalities.

'It should prove educational as well. They are all thrilled and have never attended something of this scale before,' said Dave.

The Redcross Taekwondo members will be representing Team Ireland at the Championships, along with another Taekwondo club from Tipperary.

Redcross Taekwondo train in Barndarrig National School each Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m..

New members are always welcome to attend.
