Plan to erect 11 CCTV cameras around town
The town of Arklow could soon be a safer place to live, work and shop as it moves ever-closer to securing a CCTV system throughout the town centre as the Arklow Town Team prepares to make a funding application.
A map detailing proposed locations for 11 cameras was released to the public today (Wednesday) and will be on display at the Municipal District Office and Arklow Garda Station.
The Town Team is to make an application to the Department of Justice and Equality for funding towards the installation of a community-based CCTV system for the town.
The funding scheme is designed to support local communities who wish to install and maintain CCTV security systems in their area with the aim of increasing public safety and to deter illegal or anti-social behaviour.
The eleven locations, which include the Riverwalk, The Brook, Main Street and North Quay, were selected following public consultation and subject to funding the cameras could be installed within the coming months.
Those who wish to view the map are invited to drop into either venue or call Arklow Municipal District on 0402 42700 to request the information to be sent out before Thursday, November 30.
