The community of Rathnew is shrouded in grief this week following the death of 20-year-old Jordan Quinn.

Jordan of Wilton Manor, Rathnew, died unexpectedly on Monday sending shockwaves through the community.

A very popular young man, Jordan was a talented sportstar, playing with both Rathnew AFC and Rathnew GAA.

Local councillor John Snell said Jordan had been a very popular person.

'Jordan was a hard-working, fun-loving, outgoing young fellow who was very, very popular within the community. He was very active in sport playing with Rathnew AFC. He also played with Rathnew GAA in his younger years and with Wicklow Town at schoolboy level.

'The whole community has been devastated by his loss especially at such a young age.'

Cllr Snell extended sympathy to his parents, siblings and extended family members.

Tributes have been flooding in for Jordan since his death and this message was posted on the Rathnew GAA Facebook page: 'Rathnew GAA extend heartfelt sympathy to the family of the late Jordan Quinn. Jordan donned the red and green jersey for his club on many occasions. R.I.P. young Man.'

The Rathnew AFC club posted this message on its Facebook page: 'Rathnew AFC would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the Quinn and Byrne families on the passing of Jordan. At this difficult time our thoughts and prayers are with both families and also his many numerous friends in the club and wider community. May he rest in peace.'

Described as a very funny and witty young man, Jordan had a knack for making people laugh and always had a smile on his face.

As a mark of respect, a minute's silence will be held at both Wicklow Cup semi-finals this weekend.

Jordan's funeral mass will take place at St Joseph's Church, Rathnew, at 1 p.m. on Thursday followed by burial in Rathnew Cemetery.
