THE OFFICIAL OPENING of the historic Thomas Moore Memorial Park took place last Friday.

Over 50 people gathered in the park in the Meeting of the Waters.

The park which has been redeveloped of late now boasts picnic benches and information boards.

Colin Moore, whose sister Marianne has been a driving force behind the project, said they were delighted with how the occasion went. Opened by Christy Kenneally the event also included a poetry recital by the Wicklow Writers Association. Paintings by Rod Coyne were also on display.

Colin said, 'It was a great success with a good turnout.' A new oak tree was planted at the existing monument and a bust of Thomas Moore replacing the old tree which was knocked in 2008. The remains of the old tree are now displayed on granite stones in the park.
