Laurie Kearon of Ballinaclash became an Irish citizen at the recent Citizenship Ceremony in Killarney.

Laurie is married to Stephen Kearon and moved to Ireland from Wales 25 years ago. She applied some years ago to become an Irish citizen, but with Brexit looming, becoming an Irish citizen became even more important to her as it maintained her status of being an EU citizen.

The Minister for Justice and Equality, Charlie Flanagan presided over the ceremony held in the Convention Centre Killarney, Co Kerry. The Presiding Officers on the day will be Retired High Court Judge Bryan McMahon and Retired District Court Judge Paddy McMahon.

While speaking to the Minister, Laurie commented on how much she loved living in Ireland, especially Wicklow.

Three citizenship ceremonies were held on the day with 2,400 people originating from 90 countries granted Irish citizenship.
