History is made as new schools open
History has been made in county Wicklow with the opening of two new Educate Together schools.
A new secondary school has opened its doors temporarily in the old St Joseph's school building in Rathnew but will be moving to a new prefab structure at Crinion Park, in Wicklow town, within the next three weeks, while a new primary school has opened opposite the community centre in Kilmacullagh, Newtownmountkennedy.
The primary school has nine pupils enrolled at the moment with Principal, Dr Nicola Martin-Hodgins, taking on a teaching-principal role. The school will remain at its current location for at least three years but the long term plan is to secure a permanent building.
Ms Martin-Hodgins said she is excited about the prospects for the school and its potential to grow over the coming years.
There are 12 staff members in the secondary school with 38 students enrolled for the coming term and speaking to this newspaper Principal, Colm Kehoe, said: 'We will be in the St Joseph's building for the next two or three weeks and then we'll be moving to Crinion Park.'
