Over 400 people lined up for the annual Streets of Wicklow 5k event held on St Stephen's Day in Wicklow town.

The annual race, which is organised by Inbhear Dee Athletics Club and sponsored by Burke Oil, started from East Glendalough School. Now in its tenth year, the race continues to grow in stature and offers cash prizes, age category prizes and a fastest family prize for those taking part.

Three years ago the route was changed which has put more of a competitive edge on things. Conditions were perfect on the day for a new race record and Hiko Tonoasa duly obliged as he was the first male runner to cross the finishing line. A close second was Thomas Fitzpatrick from Tallaght AC. Emmett Dunleavey from Sligo AC took third place.

For the youngsters there was a shorter distance race which set off from Whitegates half an hour earlier than the main event.
