Go-ahead for Credit Union office

Altura Credit Union has been granted planning permission to change the use of a premises in Arklow from an antique shop to a credit union office. The premises is located on Ferrybank in a shop formerly known as Cannon's.

Permission was also sought for changes to elevations of the building, for a replacement slated roof, the installation of ATM machine to the front elevation and minor changes to the rear elevation.

Wicklow County Council granted planning permission stating that the 'proposed development would not seriously injure the visual amenities of the area' and was 'acceptable in terms of traffic safety and convenience'.

The planning authority's decision was subject to conditions including that no advertising signs, other than painted letters on the timber fascia, may be put up on the front of the premises without prior agreement. Additionally, no roller shutters, projecting sign or other additions to the front of the shop to control advertising in the interest of visual amenity.

Meanwhile, furniture retailer Morgan Doyles is applying for planning permission for an extension at the rear of their retail showrooms at Croghan Industrial Estate in Arklow.

The proposed development will consist of 450 sq m of warehouse space for furniture storage and associated site works.
