A cheque for €2,200 raised from the Annual Shave at The Meetings bar and restaurant in Avoca was recently presented to Clare Hogan of East Coast FM's Coffee Morning.

Martin Hughes, organiser of the annual shave, presented the funds to Clare Hogan, producer of East Coast FM's Morning Show and presenter Declan Meehan. He was joined by Derek and Max Fulham from the Meetings.

The generous donation was the proceeds from this year's event where 20 people including men and women had their hair shaved by local barber Col O'Connor on St Patrick's Day. Music was provided by Jimmy Reid and Zach Wolohan. Others took part in the big raffle held on Easter Sunday.

Over the last two years, €4,200 has been raised for Wicklow cancer services from the Annual Shave.

Organisers extended their thanks to all the sponsors including the Fulham family, Fitzgerald's Avoca, Avoca Post Office and their customers, Isaac Lett, Hendley's in Avoca, Woodenbridge Hotel, Ken Kenny, The Gallery Arklow and PJ Mulvanny. They also expressed special thanks to all who participated on the day especially to Col O'Connor and Din Kenny.

Planning is already under way for next year's Annual Shave and the Easter Sunday monster draw. If anyone is interested in sponsoring the event, please contact Derek on 04023226.
