The future married couples of Arklow, Castletown and Johnstown gathered at the Church of Sts Mary & Peter, Arklow on Saturday for a special celebration.

Now in its sixth year, the annual parish celebration for engaged couples welcomed couples and their families to take part in a blessing ceremony ahead of their wedding days.

Engaged couples in the presence of their families and friends had their engagement rings blessed.

The idea behind this is to ensure that the engagement ring is blessed, and not just the wedding ring, which is a more common tradition.

Celebrant Fr Michael Murtagh invited all the couples to stand for the blessing and gave the gentlemen a rose to present to his fiancée.

The couples and their families were invited afterwards to Árus Lorcáin where the parish hospitality team served refreshments.
