Wicklow's third public access defibrillator, which had previously been located at Delahunt's Hardware, has a new home.

Last week the defibrillator which was removed from the wall outside Delahunt's before its closure and was rehoused at Michael Collins Pharmacy.

A spokesperson for Wicklow Town Community First Responder group said they were delighted that the third defibrillator is back up and running again thanks to the support of Michael Collins.

Michael Collins Pharmacy is located on Abbey Street opposite Wicklow Town Tennis Club.

The other two defibrillators are located outside CarePlus Pharmacy and Ernie's Bar.

Public Defibrillators play a vital role in the chain of survival for a patient who has stopped breathing. All three are linked to the National Ambulance Service so that a member of the public can be directed to their location if a patient needs defibrillation while waiting for the ambulance.

All three live saving defibrillators are looked after by the town's Community First Responders who are a group of volunteers trained to attend emergency calls for heart attacks, chest pain, strokes, unconscious and choking patients. New volunteers are always welcome and full training is given. Contact cfrwicklowtown@gmail.com or Caroline 087 993 3509.
