Date for murder trial is vacated

The man accused of murdering a 61-year-old woman, whose remains were found scattered in the Wicklow mountains, has had his trial adjourned.

Kieran Greene (32) of Mountain View Park, Rathfarnham is charged with the murder of Patricia O'Connor at Mountain View Park between May 29 and May 30, 2017.

Mary Rose Gearty SC, prosecuting, told the Central Criminal Court last Wednesday, October 24, that she was making an application to vacate Mr Greene's trial date for December of this year.

Ms Gearty said four co-accused have been charged with impeding the garda investigation into the murder of Mrs O'Connor and the State was seeking a joint trial.

Brendan Grehan SC, defending Mr Greene, said his client had not sought bail and he may have to reconsider this but it was a separate matter.

The trial, which was due to take place on December 3, was vacated and it was put into the list of fixed dates on January 28, 2019. Mr Justice Michael White remanded Mr Greene in custody until that date.
