Permission is being sought to extend planning for a 90 bed nursing home granted permission in Roundwood in 2015.

Construction has yet to take place at Roundwood Park Estate and Ras Venture Ltd have lodged an application with Wicklow County Council seeking to extend the appropriate period of planning.

The proposed nursing home will have the capacity for 90 beds with all associated residential care facilities. It will also include 50 parking spaces and landscape developments including formal gardens, parkland and paddocks for farm animals.

Cllr Shay Cullen feels the development would be a welcome boost for the area.

He said: 'An awful lot of people visit Roundwood and it is one of the highest villages in Ireland. It has unique characteristics and the site is a landmark area of the village. You are talking about up to 200 jobs during construction. Then there is the potential for further jobs once the facility is up and running. The spin-offs for the whole area would also be massive with people visiting the home. I think it can only be a positive thing for Roundwood.'

A decision on the extension period of permission is due from Wicklow County Council by September 10.

Planning also includes landscape developments such as formal gardens, parkland and a paddock for farm animals. Water will be supplied by another part of Roundwood Park Estate. Minor improvements off-site to the local road linking to the R764 are also required.
