Gardaí in south Wicklow have appealed for information after a car stolen in Dublin was burnt out and abandoned near the village of Tinahely.

The vehicle which appeared to be a Ford Focus was reported stolen from Blanchardstown on Sunday evening.

Gardaí and the Fire Brigade attended the remote scene at Lugduff on the Aughrim road where the vehicle was set on fire shortly before lunchtime on Monday.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed that the vehicle had been stolen and said that the likely reason for the blaze was to destroy forensic evidence.

He added that nobody was at the scene when the car was discovered.

Members of the public with information are urged to come forward, particularly if they have any details of another vehicle which may have been used after the stolen car was dumped.
