Car explodes during the night
Carnew Gardaí are trying to locate to owner of a vehicle which exploded and went on fire in the village of Coolboy over the May Bank Holiday.
The incident occurred at around 4 a.m. on the Monday morning when residents awoke to the sound of a large explosion as the car burst into flames.
Carnew Fire Brigade attended the scene and it took in excess of 30 minutes for fire fighters to extinguish the blaze.
A garda spokesperson confirmed that the car was an Opel Vectra but said that investigating officers are still trying to identify the current owner.
There was nobody present at the scene when the car went on fire and nobody was injured. The shell of the car was removed the following morning.
Previous owners have been located but it is unclear who now owns the car.
'We don't have reason to believe that there is any criminality here. We are just trying to locate the owner,' the spokesperson said.
