The joy of reading was the theme at Rathdrum Boys National School as they held their week-long annual book fair from last Monday.

Celtic Travelling Books provided the books for the pupils to purchase, showcasing the very best of books to engage with very possible reader.

An emphasis was placed on Irish authors, with all the classics such as Treasure Island also included. Modern books popular with children, such as Dog Man, also proved very popular.

Throughout the week an emphasis was placed on the importance of reading and the joy children can get from picking up a good book, particularly in this technological age with so many other distractions vying for children's attention.

The parents association played their part in helping to organise the event and manned the fair each day.

Parents were also encouraged to attend the fair and help their son select a book to suit them.

The school will also benefit as any commission made form the sales of books goes directly back into their library.

Children were also encouraged to bring in their own favourite books t share with their fellow pupils.
