Blessington, you're the business!
Blessington's success on a national scale was acknowledged at a civic reception at County Buildings on Monday.
The event marked Blessington's win as the Most Enterprising Town in Leinster under the Bank of Ireland National Enterprising Town Awards.
The town had been chosen as County Wicklow's representative in the 3,001 to 7,000 population category. Baltinglass Municipal District, in conjunction with Blessington and District Forum, was the lead group in formulating the town's application.
The Civic Reception in County Buildings was attended by members of the Blessington community and their guests who represented the various local groups involved in the Enterprising Town Award win. Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Cllr Edward Timmins, welcomed everyone and congratulated all those involved on this tremendous success.
'This exciting achievement for the town was a culmination of a huge amount of hard work by the local enterprising town committee with strong support from Blessington forum, the local business community and the Baltinglass Municipal District working collaboratively to ensure that when the judging took place, Blessington's vibrant community spirit, its business potential and fantastic local amenities were showcased to their fullest potential,' he said.
Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council Frank Curran also outlined the council's strong commitment to encourage and support enterprise throughout the county and welcomed the close collaboration between the Blessington Community leaders and Wicklow County Council and Baltinglass Municipal District.
Minister for Health Simon Harris also joined in the congratulations to Blessington. Also in attendance at the Civic Reception were fellow Wicklow TDs Andrew Doyle and Pat Casey and County Councillors.
The award affirms the local view that Blessington is a great place to live, work and play, with many positive attributes and a fantastic sense of community.
