Baltinglass mourns death of Bishop Laurence Ryan
The parish of Baltinglass has joined the rest of the Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin in mourning the death at the weekend of its former Bishop, Dr. Laurence Ryan.
Seventy-two-year-old Dr. Ryan passed away in Beaumont Hospital in Dublin in the early hours of Monday morning, following a short illness.
He had served as Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin from 1987 until his retirement last year, and served the Diocese for more than 40 years following his ordination as a priest in 1956.
His remains were removed to the Cathedral of the Assumption in Carlow on Tuesday evening, where they reposed overnight and all day Wednesday.
Requiem Mass takes place at 2.30 p.m. today (Thursday), and burial will take place afterwards in the grounds of the Cathedral.
