5,800 customers hit by major ESB outage
Arklow people also affected by water problems
Homes and businesses in Arklow suffered a double loss of services in recent days when parts of the town were affected by a large electricity outage and a water outage following a burst mains. ESB Networks confirmed that a total of 5,800 customers were without power shortly after 7.30 p.m. on Sunday evening.
A spokesperson said that electricity was restored to 4,900 customers after 25 minutes and the remaining 900 customers were reconnected after 90 minutes. The service provider is still looking into the cause of the outage which affected properties in Arklow and down as far as North Wexford.
Meanwhile, approximately 660 properties were without water for a time on Monday evening after a water mains burst at the 19 Arches bridge.
Irish Water customers in Bridge Street, Ferrybank, North Quay, Seaview Avenue and surrounding areas in Arklow were affected while emergency works were carried out between 6 p.m. and midnight. Further works are scheduled to take place on September 7, 8, 11 and 12 to complete the repairs and some traffic restrictions will be in place.
'We apologise for any inconvenience caused as a result of the burst and wish to reassure customers that the repair crew worked to repair the burst as quickly as possible,' said a spokesperson for Irish Water.
