The Coral Leisure Centre in Wicklow town played host to over 200 swimmers as part of the Leinster Nipper Still Water Championships.

The competition included a series of swimming events for children aged between 8 and 14, such as obstacle swims, underwater finn swims and rescue medleys for both individual swimmers and relays.

The top six from each event qualified to compete in the National Finals taking place in the UL Sports Arena, Limerick on Saturday, April 22.

Wicklow was the largest club taking part in the Leinster Championships, with 55 members competing in total .

There were some excellent results with the 8 to 11 year old Wicklow girls and boys teams both crowned Leinster champions.

The 12 to 14 year old girls also won their championship, with the 12 to 14 year old boys team narrowly missing out to Wexford.

In February, Wicklow competed in the Junior and Senior Still Water National Championships in UL Sports Arena. The Junior and Senior girls came exceptionally close to landing a national title.

The very young junior boys performed very well and ended up ranking fourth.

Overall, the Wicklow team won numerous Gold medals and dominated the field with some spectacular relay wins. The team thanks all those involved in arranging transport and accommodation.
