Sun shines for 42nd road race
The Knockananna road race returned recently for its 42nd year.
There was beautiful weather and the event was well-attended despite the busy weekend across the county.
The 8k race was won by Bill Porter. Families also took in a 5k walk. Participants then enjoyed light refreshments in O'Keefe's pub after the race was completed.
Pat Carroll, who set up the race, did the honours at the medal presentation ceremony. The organisers extended their thanks to Pat for starting the race, to Bill Porter as Chairman of Wicklow Athletics for providing the medals and to everyone who was involved for their support.
The Knockananna road race takes place to fundraise for the Christmas dinner provided by Care of the Age. A Scarecrow competition is also taking place in the village this month. Entry forms are available from Byrne's shop or O'Keefe's and everyone is encouraged to take part. Judging will take place in September and the closing date for entries is August 25.
