Start of works at school
Works have commenced on additional classrooms for St Mary's National School in Stratfod on Slaney.
Pupils will be temporarily housed elsewhere in the village while the works take place.
Former TD Billy Timmins believes the works will effectively result in a brand new school.
'A lot of hard work and perseverance by the school staff and board of management will now lead to improved facilities for the schoolchildren of the area,' said Mr Timmins.
'There are over 70 pupils and these works will effectively provide a new building, which has been a long time in coming. Many educational facilities across the county have improved over the last number of years and the work in Stratford is long overdue'.
The current building, which was constructed in two phases, will be replaced with a state of the art new build, which should compliment the environs of the village.
'The school in Stratford has always played a lead role in the social fabric of the area and the completed project will assist in building on that relationship,' added Mr Timmins.
