Sign of concern for future of bull beef?

WITH over 400 lots of bulls on offer at Tullow on Saturday, the trade was very brisk for the quality calves with a 96 per cent clearance. One overall point to note was fewer farmer customers around the ring. Is this a sign of the concern for bull beef and its future in Ireland? This, in turn, leaving lesser calves a weaker trade.

Exporters were very active around the ring with quality well breed calves selling from 2.5 up to a tops of 3.60 for the prise winners. While the majority of E & U grade calves sold from 2.65 to 2.90 per kg for the calves between 380 and 460 Kg.
