Race is runaway success
Rith na Lochanna 5k at Russborough House and Parklands
The sun shone down on Russborough House recently when the school community of Gaelscoil na Lochanna came together for the annual Rith na Lochanna 5k.
Hundreds of people gathered to participate in both adult and kids races.
This year's race, supported by Pop-Up Races, offered chipped timing and was a big hit with the many runners who travelled from various parts of the county and country to run. Every runner received a medal while the race t-shirts proved very popular with the runners.
Children enjoyed face painting, bouncy castle, jenga, archery, nail in the bale and a splash attraction which gave children an opportunity to throw sponges at their teachers and friends.
Rith na Lochanna 5k is now in its fourth year and all proceeds go directly to the school for the purchase of musical instruments, sports equipments, books and art material.
The parents committee thanked all the businesses in the area who provided prizes and whose financial support made the event possible.
Speaking at the event, principal Seán O'Cearnaigh said: 'Tá sé go hálainn an méid seo duine a fheiceáil amach ag rith ar maidin idir pobal na scoile agus pobal an cheantair. Tá an tádh linn go bhfuil áis chomh galánta le Russborough chomh gar dúinn agus go bhfuil an ghrian ag taitneamh orainn inniu. Táimid an-an-bhuíoch do na gnó ar fad a thug urraíocht dúinn arís i mbliana agus an-bhuíoch dona tuistí ar fad a chuireann an imeacht mór seo le chéile. Téann Rith an Lochanna go mór i bhfeidhm ar an scoil ar fad. Mothaímid ar fad níos fearr ionainn féin ina dhiaidh gach bliain spianta bfhéidir ach níós fearr.'
