Maryland State Boy Choir visits Wicklow
The Prestigious Maryland State Boychoir performed in Wicklow Parish Church as part of their Irish tour.
The free event also featured the much-admired Wicklow Community Choir, directed by Tony Norton.
The Maryland State Boychoir was formed in 1987 with just 14 boys.
Their mission was to foster the boychoir tradition by offering talented boys opportunities to sing and build self-esteem, self discipline and character. 30 years later and the choir still embraces the same goal.
They performed a wonderful mix of music in Wicklow, including contemporary pieces, gospel, spirituals and folk songs.
The touring choir consisted of 20 unchanged voices, trebles and altos, and 15 changed voices, tensors and basses.
The Wicklow date was part of a 15-day tour of Ireland the choir embarked on.
Currently the choir consists of over 170 members, ranging in age from 7 to 20.
