At 60 years of age, Pat Carroll is showing no signs of slowing down just yet.

He has just announced that he plans to run the 15 miles from his home in Knockananna to Carnew on Friday, October 20 next, leaving at 10 a.m.

He decided to take on the challenge to raise funds for Carnew Community Care, and he is currently calling door-to-door to collect sponsorship.

Judging by his past record, he should take the 15 miles in his stride. 'I've done 36 marathons in the past 26 years,' he said. 'I ran a marathon for Carnew Community Care before.'

As he will be running on narrow country roads, he will be accompanied by a back up car. He said that all donations will be gratefully received.
