Future of Blessington Tourist Office secured
The future of Blessington Tourist Office is secure after moving into its new premises donated by McGreals Pharmacy.
In February there were fears that the tourist office would have to close. It had been accommodated for over 22 years in a unit provided by Blessington Credit Union but a directive from the Central Bank ruled that Credit Unions could no longer be involved in the provision of space to anyone other than themselves.
Blessington and District Community Employment Ltd. worked alongside the Blessington Forum to resolve the situation.
Martin Cahill, Community Employment Supervisor for Blessington and District CE ltd. said: 'We are delighted to be able to open this new vibrant and more dynamic tourist office for the community. It's a much more spacious and modern space for tourists to visit and to showcase the beauty that Blessington has to offer. This has been a huge undertaking in planning, coordination and execution of a project which at times seemed impossible.'
Blessington Men's Shed and some local community employment workers helped in making sure the new office was fit for purpose. Blessington Credit Union are also thanked for their assistance, as are Europrint and Sign Artist who designed and fitted the new signage and map for the office.
The new office will be open Monday through to Saturday. The Community Employment Office, which coordinates so many aspects of community enhancement and services, will be located to the rear of the office.
