Emily Bateman and Samuel Bishop get awards

EMILY Bateman and Samuel Bishop were awarded junior 'Club athletes 2013' for their dedication and commitment throughout the year. Rebecca Harris and Nigel Dunne were also nominated as the senior athletes for 2013. Congratulations to all very worthy recipients.

Congratulations also to all who took part in the annual 1mile club race. There was a super turn out for the event and many thanks to those who prepared refreshments afterwards. There is no training until Wednesday 15th January. AGM this Wednesday 8th January in Ashford NS - all welcome.



We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our BBKR Community games kids and their families a very happy and healthy 2014. May all your New Year wishes come true. Due to changes at National we have been delayed in completing and communicating our calander of events for 2014.

Instead of having a May National Finals weekend and an August National Finals Weekend, this year both National Finals will take place in August. The first weekend will be August 15 to August 17 and the second weekend will be August 22 to August 24. We are awaiting clarification on which events will take place on which weekend.

Once clarified we will be able to complete our calander of events and we will hope to have it ready for distribition towards the end of January. This will be distributed through the schools, on our website and via email. If anyone would like to be included in our mailing list please send a mail to

Pitch & Putt training will recommence on Saturday 18 January. On behalf of the BBKR kids we would like to thank Tony O'Toole & Billy Costello for the time and effort that they have put into the Pitch & Training every week.

The next Citizens Information Centre clinic at the Brockagh Resource Centre will take place on Tuesday 21st January for information relating to your rights and entitlements from 10 a.m. until noon. Clinics will continue thereafter on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. No appointment is necessary for this free and confidential service.


Closed AA Meetings are held in the Brockagh Resource Centre at 8.30pm every Monday night. If you think that you may have a problem with alcohol please come along.



The lotto is back this Monday 6th January. The club would like to take this chance to wish a there members and supporters a happy and prosperous 2014.

Newtown's Dean Odlums scored a stunning volley to help Wicklow to a close victory against I.T. Carlow in the O'Byrne cup on Sunday 5th January. They take on DIT on Wednesday 8th in Newtown at 7.45pm.


It was great to see so many locals travel back for the Christmas period. Stephen Smith heads back to Canada on Monday the 6th , unfortunately his brother Robert couldn't make it home for Christmas.


A big congratulations to Johnny Watchorn son of Colin Watchorn, who romantically proposed to his long suffering girlfriend Sandra O'Connor on Christmas Day.

May this be the start of many happy years together. Congratulations from everyone in the village.

On Wednesday 8th January, Newtown GAA host a Bord Na Mona O'Byrne cup game at 7.30 pm Wicklow senior footballers -v- D I T. All committee members are requested to attend for stewarding etc.

The first committee meeting of 2014 will be held on Tuesday 14th January@8pm. As this is a most important meeting with a full agenda all members are requested to attend

The Nursery team were delighted to see such a great attendance at the Junior Magpie Winter Camp on Saturday, the nursery is for children aged 4-8years and we always welcome new members. Join us on Saturdaymornings from 10-11am in the sports hall in the community centre.

Newtown GAA extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Nuala Dalton and also of Peter Kearns who recently passed away. May they rest in peace.
