Remembering our WW1 dead: On the 100th anniversary of the end of the Great War it is worth noting and sparing a thought for the young men who were born or lived in the immediate Baltinglass area during their short lives. Charles Ferris of Lathaleere died on October 25, 1914, and James Moore died of wounds on January 2, 1919. Patrick Greene, Patrick Kane, Edward Tutty, Thomas Devine and Andrew Jones all died on the same day, July 1, 1916, in the Battle of the Somme.

The Review 2018 magazine will hold a launch in the Parish Centre on Friday, November 23, at 7 p.m. On the evening, the Communications Group will announce the results of the Art Competition which took place in all five National Schools in the parish over the past few weeks. Our thanks to all who participated, and to our judges for selecting the winners in each category.
The Review 2018 will go on sale at weekend Masses on Saturday and Sunday, December 1, and two. This year there is a small increase in the price from €5 to €7.
'Battle of Baltinglass'
The 1950-51 dispute about Baltinglass post office that became known as the Battle of Baltinglass, after the book of that name, is the subject on Joe Kearney's documentary on RTÉ Radio one next Saturday, November 17, at 2 p.m. It features the voices of a number of members from the West Wicklow Historical Society as well as other locals. It will be available on podcast afterwards.
A traditional night of music is planned to take place in St Patrick's Parish Church, Rathvilly. Guests will include Dave Sheridan and friends, Paul Bradley, Martin Quinn and Eimear Casey, Charlie Solan (Baritone), and Ann Donohue and friends.
Proceeds from the night will go towards the Rathvilly National School, music programme. Tickets are €10 and on sale in the school, open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. or from board of management committee members. Come along and enjoy a night of diverse music catering for all tastes. Support for this exciting evening would be very much appreciated.
Knitwear fashion show
Baltinglass Hospital Patients Comfort Fund Fashion Show hosted by Kaideen Knitwear takes place this Wednesday, November 14, at 8 p.m. in their premises at Lathaleer Industrial Estate, Baltinglass. This event will mark the launch of their annual Christmas Sale.
Entry is free with all proceeds from a raffle on the night going to the Baltinglass Hospital Patients Comfort Fund. Doors open at 7.30 p.m. Bigstone Christmas concert
Bigstone National School's annual Christmas Concert takes place on Thursday, December 6, at 7 p.m. Proceeds will go towards the school. Tearmann Community Garden
The community in Baltinglass and surrounding areas are invited to attend 'The turning of the sod' for the new development at Tearmann Community Garden on Monday, November 19, at 11 a.m.
The new development will include a 'Dementia and Disability Friendly' area in conjunction with the organic vegetable and fruit garden, and wild life area. The members of the garden would greatly appreciate local support on the day.
The Baltinglass and District Active Retirement, weekly coffee morning venue for November is Germaines, meeting each Friday at 11 a.m.

The Christmas party for members will be held on Tuesday, December 4, at 1 p.m. in Germaines. Music will be by Jackie Byrne. Tickets are available from the committee at a price of €15.
The Christmas outing to Newbridge Silverware will take place on Monday, December 10. Further information is available from Mary at 087 2999571. The committee asks that Babushka boxes be kindly returned at the next monthly meeting in Germaines on Wednesday, November 28.
School's Christmas fair
The annual Scoil Chonglais Christmas Fair will take place on Sunday, November 25. The event will take place in the School Sports Hall from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Anyone, who would like to set up a stall, at a cost of €20, to sell their items is asked to collect a Booking Form from the school office or contact the school at 059 6481449. Payment for stalls must be made on or before Friday, November 16.
The annual Baltinglass Hospital Christmas Bazaar will take place on Sunday, November 25, at 2 p.m. Featured items will be Bric 'a Brac, toys, the wheel of fortune, cakes and books. A raffle will also take place in aid of the hospital. There will be a very special guest arriving during the day, in a red outfit and a white beard. Your support and any donations would be very much appreciated. Many thanks to all who have supported this event in the past.
Day Care AGM
The AGM of the Baltinglass Day Care Committee will take place on Wednesday, November 21, at 8.30 p.m. at the Day Care Center in Baltinglass Hospital. Anyone with an interest in the activities of the centre is very welcome to come along and contribute to the meeting.
A table quiz in aid of Crumlin Children's Hospital will take place in Horan's, Baltinglass on Friday, November 23, at 9 p.m. Entry for a table of four is €40. There will also be a raffle on the night. All are welcome to come along.
Baltinglass Community Development group (formerly the Christmas Lights Committee) will hold an 80s Disco night on Friday, November 30, starting at 8.30 p.m. in Inisfail, Germaines. There will be prizes for Best 80s outfit, a door prize and spot prizes throughout the night. Tickets cost €10 and are available from Fulvios, The Hair Hive and from any of the committee members. It is that time of year again, for the Stratford Lodge annual Bazaar on Church Lane, Baltinglass, taking place next Saturday, November 17.
There will be the usual stalls, cakes, produce, toys and books, bric a' brac, lucky no.5 and much more. Come along on the day, have a chat and a cup of tea with some treats.
To enter for the Bake-off and art competitions, it is €3 each and entries must be in between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. as judging will take place at 3 p.m.
The Bake-Off entries must all be on paper plates: 5-8 years - six decorated rice krispie buns or six pieces of rocky road; 9-12 years - six chocolate brownies or six decorated cupcakes; 13-17 years - traditional Victoria Sponge filled with jam and cream.
Art Competition: 5-8 years - Christmas tree decoration or weird animal/insect made from fruit and vegetables; 9-12 years - Make a sleigh for Father Christmas using materials of your choice or a picture, a collage of a snow scene; 13-17 years - Christmas party Hat. Donard Christmas Craft Fair will take place next Sunday, November 18, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Donard Hall and Moate Farm Hall, Donard, Co. Wicklow. There will be a great selection of beautiful crafts and gifts available to purchase, plus the little ones can visit Santa and Mrs Clause.
