Baltinglass Jotter

Active Retirement - The Baltinglass and District Active Retired Friday coffee mornings venue for October is Bia Blasta at 11am each Friday.

Yoga Classes for Active Retired members will commence on Thursday afternoons from October 3. Specific times are yet to be confirmed. The Total cost is €50 for six classes.

The outing to Kilmainham Gaol will take place on Wednesday, October 23, arriving at 4 p.m. The Tour cost is €8 per person.

The Theatre outing for members, to see John B Keane's play 'Sive', will take place on Thursday, October 24. The venue is Carlow Little Theatre. Starting time is 8 p.m.

A November outing is planned to the National Concert Hall to see the Musical 'Oklahoma'. The date is Saturday, November 16 - afternoon performance. Further details for any of these events are available from Mary at 087 2999571.

Creative writing workshops

Creative writing workshops will take place in O'Toole Hall in Rathdangan on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

These will be in small groups in a relaxed and encouraging environment. For further enquiries phone John at 087 9484938.

Know your plants

The Baltinglass Adult Education Centre is putting on a brand new gardening class in the Baltinglass Further Education and Training Centre starting on Friday, October 11. The 'Know Your Plants' class takes place between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Classes are free, fun and flexible with QQI accreditation at Level 3. Contact Maeve Hudson at 059 6482642 for more details.

Talk about policing, safety and security

County Wicklow Public Participation Network (PPN) invites community groups to a meeting in Baltinglass Parish Centre on Tuesday, October 15, from 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.

West Wicklow Journal

The West Wicklow Historical Society will be holding a joint launch of their 10th West Wicklow Journal along with a launch of a Baltinglass women exhibition taken from the Wicklow heritage exhibition 'Our Wicklow Women', on Friday, October 18, at 8 p.m. in the library in Baltinglass.

This joint launch will include a brief talk by Cora Crampton, who researched one of the Wicklow women for the Wicklow exhibition, Jennie Wyse Power, a Baltinglass native.

The West Wicklow Journal will be a bumper issue to mark its 10th edition. All are welcome to come along to this event.

Baby loss remembrance service

The annual Baby Loss Awareness Remembrance Service will take place in St Patrick's, Kiltegan on October 13 at 3 p.m. All are welcome to the service which is followed by a balloon release, walk by the river and refreshments. For further details contact babylossawarenessireland@gmail.com.

Music Generation

A new initiative between Music Generation and Wicklow Libraries, to provide musical instruments for hire to junior library members, is now operating in Baltinglass Library. The instruments can be borrowed by children up to the age of 18 for a period of six months at a time. The aim is to allow children to try out the instruments of their choice without having to invest in them initially.

Healthcare course

Would you like to work in Healthcare? Thought about working in a nursing home, hospital or doing home help?

This could be the course for you, Healthcare Support (KW2EW S97) which will run in Baltinglass over 41 weeks. This course is free to those eligible and run under Kildare Wicklow ETB. Date for your diary

A Variety Concert will take place on Sunday, December 1, in the Church of Our Lady in Blessington at 8 p.m. This is a fundraising event for the West Wicklow Day Care Centre and the Coimin Centre. Acts include the Roscommon Solstice Choir and Rachel Coyne. All are welcome.
