Newtownmountkennedy: Newtown Juniors FC - Our under-12s were the first of our teams back in action after the break. On Tuesday evening, they travelled to Tullylusk in Rathdrum to play Avonmore in the Plate semi-final.

Though the final score was 4-0 to the home side, it was not a fair reflection of our team's efforts. The main difference on the night was they took their chances and we didn't. On Saturday morning in the opening game of the shield the 12's got their campaign off to a winning start with a 4-1 home win over St Anthony's. The goals were scored by Cormac Chance (2), PJ Duffy and Brooklyn Doyle. In an evenly contested game Scott McKenna, Rose Kelly Tynan and Cillaun Coffey were among Newtown's best players.

The following are the fixtures for the week Saturday/Sunday, August 10/11: under-eights at home to St Anthony's Yellow ko Saturday at 10 a.m.; under-nines away to Greystones Red ko to be confirmed; under-10s away to Avonmore Black ko to be confirmed; under-11s at home to Shillelagh Navy ko Saturday at 11.15 a.m.; under-12s at home to Wicklow Rovers B ko Saturday at 12.30 p.m.; under-13s - Fixture to be confirmed (Fixtures and KO Times are subject to change)

Last week the club hosted an FAI Camp for the first time in years. We are glad to report that the camp was full to capacity for the whole week and in the main the weather was kind to us though the rain on Friday tried its best to get the better of us. Well done to all the participants and their parents and well done to all the coaches. We hope everyone had an enjoyable week.

The Roundwood and District Community are putting in an application under the scheme which will allow residents of the area to apply for alarms. The group can assist in installing the alarms if the need arises. The alarms are battery powered so installation is straightforward. If you are elderly, have a disability or are unemployed and do not have a carbon monoxide alarm in your home and wish to apply for one please call 086 8055040.
