Newtownmountkennedy - Newtown GAA: After an absence of some time, Newtown GAA is delighted to announce the return of our annual Presentation Banquet/dinner dance. This event will take place on Saturday, January 26, in the Parkview Hotel. Doors open at 7.30 p.m., and the meal will be served at 8 p.m. Music by the amazing Men In Black. Admission is €35 by ticket only. Tickets on sale in post office or from any committee member. It promises to be a great night so get your tickets early.

The AGM held early in December will re-convene on Wednesday, January 16, for the main purpose of electing a club secretary. An executive committee will then be elected.

Newtown GAA extend our sympathies to the Healy family on the passing of Michael Healy. Michael was a member of a prominent GAA family and sadly passed away before Christmas, may he rest in peace.

Yoga Classes

The next term of Yoga Classes is starting on Wednesdays January 9 6 p.m. to 7.15 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. at the space behind the Corner House Village Practice. This class is suitable for all levels of experience and beginners are very welcome. Cost: €65 for six class or €15 drop in. Reduced rates are possible also. Booking is essential. Mindfulness Classes

Our next three Week Mindfulness Course is starting on Monday, January 14, from 7.45 p.m. to 8.45 p.m. This Course will specifically teach Mindfulness Skills for managing Stress and Anxiety. No previous experience necessary. Cost: €35 for three weeks or €13 drop in. Booking essential. Please contact Angelika at 087 2176068.

Newtown Juniors FC

It's great to get back to the nitty gritty thought on field action will be scarce for a while as the new WDSL season won't be up and running till the end of February. However, there will be Futsal for some of our teams at the end of Jan/beginning of Feb. Our Development Squad will be back training after the festive break on Saturday, January 19, in the community centre 10.11 a.m. In the coming weeks we will be announcing details regards FAI.

NET, Soccer Sisters Programme, Presentation Day and AGM.

After a couple of weeks of a break we need to catch up on some birthday wishes so here goes, the following players are all celebrating their birthdays around this time, Scott O'Toole and James McDermott from the Development Squad, David McCormack from the under-eights, Alex Ryan from the under-nines, Sebastian Anton from the under-10s, Naoise Lowe and PJ Duffy from the under-11s and last but not least Laragh Davis from our under-14s. Happy birthday to every player from everyone at Newtown Juniors FC.

Our next Last Man Standing competition will start back in January 2019 (date tbc), so if you would like to take part please let any committee member or coach know and they will fill you in with all the information you require.

On a sadder note the club would like to extend their deepest sympathies to the families and friends of Hannah Kavanagh (Sycamore Drive), Michael Healy (St Patrick's Road, Joe Delaney (Brittas Bay), John Franey (Rathnew) and Siobhán Dunne (Wicklow/Rathnew) who all sadly passed away recently. May they all RIP.

Country music night

Please join us for a Country Music Night on January 25 in aid of Team Kerr's trip to the Manchester Marathon in April. The Venue is the Meetings Pub, Avoca, Doors open at 8.30 p.m. - Country Music Night Starts at 9.30 p.m. Music by the one and only Breakfree. Raffle on the night. Admission €10.

Cancer Support Group

Please remember if you have any unwanted Christmas Gifts, Rathdrum Cancer Support would welcome them to prepare the Hampers for the East Coast coffee morning.

Sympathy

We extend sympathy to the Healy, Moore and Fogarty families on the loss of Mary (May) Healy, Gerald Moore and Mary Fogarty. May they rest in peace.

25 years of lotto

This year marks 25 years since the foundation of Roundwood lotto. It is planned to mark it with a function on Friday, January 17, for all past checkers and sellers For further details or to be included on the night please contact Terry Kavanagh.

Community Council

The next Roundwood and District Community Council meeting takes place on January 14 at 8 p.m. in Roundwood Parish Centre. Tidy towns, Christmas lights, community events, playground and issues are discussed at these meetings which are open to all. Whether you are a resident or a business owner in the area everyone is welcome as are new ideas.

Yoga

Yoga classes with Anne Marie will resume on Thursday, January 10, in Roundwood Parish Centre. Class is from 7.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will include Asana (physical exercises to stretch and strengthen body) Breathing Techniques Relaxation/Meditation Cost: €10 per class with a commitment of €50 due on first night.

The next Active Retirement Bingo will be held in Annamoe Centre on Sunday, January 13.

The next Active Retirement lunch will be held in the Roundwood Inn on Friday, January 18, at 1.30 p.m.

Next whist is on tonight Wednesday, January 9, in the Parish Centre.

Trips

There will be a five-day trip to Slovenia on April 4 to April 9 at a cost of €699 per person sharing. As there are limited places a deposit of €200 is required asap. There will be a tour of Scotland in August/September dates to be decided and a Westport country music break in October 2019 which includes some day trips. Morning badminton has resumed on Tuesday morning from 9.30 p.m.

Roundwood whizzers

Roundwood Whizzers Walking Group are back in action meeting at 7 p.m. every Wednesday at the Coach House car park. All welcome to walk at your own pace for approximately one hour.

Angel healing

Angel Healing and Angelic Guidance is back tomorrow evening, Monday, September 3, in the Parish Hall Roundwood at 7.30. So if you would enjoy an evening of peace relaxation and hands on energy healing join us for a wonderful new experience.

Moneystown 45

A 45 Card Game takes place every Tuesday night in Moneystown Community Centre starting at a new time of eight. pm for the winter months beginning on October 30 Tea served.
