Tidy Towns

This month, we are delighted to say we were given €250 at the Pure Mile Awards, held in the Brooklodge Hotel, for keeping litter-free. We extend an open invite for new members to come along to our Tidy Towns meeting on November 12 at 7.30 p.m. in the Brockagh Resource Centre. You may have an interest in community involvement, the environment, landscaping, wildlife habitats, or litter control. Country Market/Car boot sales

This is held on the second Sunday of the month. Encouraging local and non-local producers of plants, vegetables, crafts etc. Our next event will be on Sunday, November 10, open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bargains on practically anything from household items to garden additions, and even vintage or antique treasures. Vans must be booked in. Please pre-book indoor spaces early. Walking group in the Brockagh

On Monday mornings weekly at 10 a.m. join the Laragh walking group at the Brockagh Resource Centre for a walk around Glendalough area for approximately one hour.

Citizen's Information Clinic

The Citizens Information Centre at the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh is open for information relating to your rights and entitlements from 10 a.m. till midday on the first and third Tuesday of each month. No appointment is necessary for this free and confidential service.

Mindfulness and Craft Workshop

Make your own Christmas cards, gift tags, gift bags and handmade presents while learning to switch off and become more mindful. This popular workshop takes place in the Brockagh Resource Centre on Saturday, November 9, 10 p.m. to 4 p.m. All materials and lunch provided. Book with Linda 087 2694954 or

Active Retirement

The group meets every Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. in the Brockagh Centre and for lunch once a month at various local venues (new members welcome). Their next monthly lunch will be in Lynhams on November 12.

Our Christmas Tea Dance is on Sunday, November 17, from three 6 p.m., music is by the Wicklow Man. We are looking for prizes for our raffle so if anyone has any unwanted gifts that they would like to donate it would be greatly appreciated.

Annual Christmas shopping trip is on Wednesday, November 20. Also, the Christmas party is on Tuesday, December 10, in Co. Meath. There are a limited number of places left, call Denise at 0404 45600 asap for further info.

Our Christmas lunch will be in the Wicklow Heather on December 17. We are currently organising our breakaway for next year, further details to follow.

Curvy Whirlies Fitness Class

Sunshine Fitness is proud to announce that our 'Curvy Whirlies' plus-sized ladies class is coming to the Brockagh Centre in Laragh this November 6 This low-impact and fun exercise class will focus on strength building using a mixture of gentle movement, weights and stretching. Parnell Athletic Club

Our girls and boys made a great start in the County Cross Country. The girls' under-10 team won gold in a really great race, with Emma Byrne coming first, very close behind her was Ella Breen in third position, they were followed by Ciara Winterbotham, Elizabeth Lasharenko, Amber Carey, Ava O'Connor, Leah Fox and Meadbh Moore. The girls were disappointed no medals were presented on the day. In the under-12 Helen Winterbotham took third. Katelynn Ross having a fine race too. Well done to Edward Byrne in the under-16 age group. Not forgetting our young members Elle, Harry, Dylan, Jamie, Aoibhean and Willow. Well done.


Results of the last whist drive are: Top Score - N Vickers and C Driver; second place - C Doyle and J Vickers; third place - M Flood and B Kennedy and fourth place - M Rattray and B Farrell. Raffle winners were M Flood, E. O'Neill and M Rattray. Next Whist drive takes place tonight (Wednesday, October 30) at 8.30 p.m.


Bingo continues every Friday night as usual at 8.30 p.m. in the RDA Hall.

Nursing Home plans

Concern has been raised by the local and wider community that an application for planning permission has been made for a 126 bed Nursing Home in the new development at the Market Square, off Brewery Lane. It is felt that it is unnecessary as St Colman's has been in existence for many years and has given great service to a wide community. It was understood that there were plans to upgrade the existing facilities at St Colman's.



There was no winner of the lotto jackpot last week. The numbers drawn were, 9, 19, 22 and 25. There were eight match-three winner Noel McCoy, Ola Steele, Mai Smullen, Maisie McCormack, John Byrne, Abby Connor, Sinéad Kennedy and Betty D. Next week's jackpot will be €16,000

Roundwood Folk Group are on the lookout for a guitarist/musician to help them in the New Year with Saturday night Mass. Very flexible not every Saturday and not a big commitment but very enjoyable. Please contact Helena at 086 3000194 if you would like to do it.


Badminton has resumed on a Tuesday morning from 9.30 a.m.


Roundwood and Moneystown Parish Sale of work will take place on Sunday, December 1, from midday till 4 p.m. All our usual helpers, and of course new volunteers are asked to come along to run this event.

Roundwood Whizzers Walking Group are back in action meeting at 7 p.m. this Wednesday at the Coach House car park. All welcome to walk at your own pace for approximately one hour.

Noeleen Redmond and Margaret Bolger continued their winning streak this week by taking first place for North/South second Maura Gaskin and Bridie Nolan and June 3 Digby and Jane Cronin. First place for East/West went to Kitty Heslin and Miriam Coyle, second Phil Kenna and Liz Belton and third Marion Davis and Teresa Leahy.

The Roundwood and District Community Council AGM will take place tonight (October 30) at 8 p.m. in Roundwood Parish Hall. All members of the community are welcome to attend.


There will be a dance in Roundwood Parish Centre on Friday, November 15, with music by John Flood. All are welcome.


Our weekly set dancing sessions continue in Kavanagh's Lounge on Thursday nights. All are always welcome - whether you have ever or never danced before Session starts at 8.30 till 10.30 and cost is still only €5 for a goodnight of exercise.


The Roundwood Cancer Support centre is now up and running and is open in the Parish Centre on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m. and they are currently looking for volunteers if you could spare some time in your week it would be greatly appreciated.
