Horse Show

It is now just three weeks to the annual Kilmacanogue Horse Show which will take place on Saturday, July 27, so please mark it in your Diaries. This committee and group are run on a purely voluntary basis and so many charities and organisations, many of whom in Kilmacanogue, have benefited greatly from the show over the years. Everyone is encouraged to please check out the full show schedule which is available at and entries are now open so go online early and choose your classes.

This year the show has lots of great activities for the family and the really great news is that children enter the grounds free of charge. To top it off, popular committee member Mary Flynn has informed us of 'The Wow Factor' that is added and children also avail of a free pony ride, a free carriage ride and even the family dog can have a free trial of the wonderful agility course. The €10 entry for adults automatically enters them into a raffle for some amazing prizes. So, let's hope you can all make the show on Saturday, July 27, from 10 a.m. at Monastry Cross, Enniskerry. Don't miss it.

GAA action

The Intermediate Championship started last Saturday night for Kilmacanogue and they got a great win on a 2-09 to 1-08 scoreline. Mark Kings troops got off to a flier with Sam O'Callaghan slotting over a point followed by a Niall Meldon point and then Kevin Redden hitting the net and they were 1-05 up before Annacurra registered their first score. Sam O'Callaghan was on fire and he scored a great goal before the break to leave it 2-06 to 04 points at the halftime interval. Points were traded equally in the second half and a late Annacurra goal reduced the margin to four points but Kilmacanogue held out for a great start to the championship held in Aughrim. Next up is Kilmacanogue v Ballymanus on Saturday, July 20, with Laragh, Ballinacor and Coolkenno all in Group One opposition over the coming weeks. Well done, lads.

Soccer summer camp

What a glorious week of weather it was last week for the sixth Glencormac United summer Soccer Camp. Once again Paul Prendergast put a lot of work into the camp with over 80 kids taking part this year and great work on the administration side by Michelle Hall and Denise Bradshaw. Gary Messitt was away on International duty last week but a massive thanks to the Coaches of Decky Bollard, Ian Fowler, Amy Greene, Emma Prendergast, Dan Hill, Karl and Dean Bradshaw and Conor Gallagher, who helped for all their efforts. Aisling Meehan became the second young lady in recent years to win the 'Tommy Devlin Player of the Camp' award.

GAA Junior Blitz

Kilmacanogue hosted a very successful under-seven and under-nine Go Games on Friday night up at the pitch. Newtown, Ashford and Fergals Og's joined our teams in a great night of football with fantastic skills on view. Well done to all. The under-sevens would like to say a big thank you to Mark Quinn of 'Mark Quinn Stone Services' as they looked very professional in their new gear, well done Mark.

The Roundwood and District Community are putting in an application under the scheme which will allow residents of the area to apply for alarms. The group can assist in installing the alarms if the need arises. The alarms are battery powered so installation is straightforward. If you are elderly, have a disability or are unemployed and do not have a carbon monoxide alarm in your home and wish to apply for one please call 086 8055040 on or before Wednesday, June 26.
