It was a great start to the league for the under-11s away in Kilcoole. It was a good even game all through with each side on top for different spells with good scoring from each team in the terrible conditions. Newtown made the slightly better use of their chances which along with some great defending made the difference in the end. A great display from all Newtown players and well done to all players who turned out on such a very cold, windy and wet night. Newtown 4-8 Kilcoole 3-5. Team: Aaron Garrett, Sam Fenelon, Noah Flannery, Scott McKenna, Ryan McDonald, Mike Synnott, Luke Turley (1-1), John Turley (1-2), Nathan McMahon, Aidan Heffernan (0-4), Dylan Dunleavy (1-0), Oisin Duffy (1-1),

Newtown Juniors FC
Plenty of on field action last weekend. Only our under-10s were inactive as their opponents couldn't play. Our under-8s hosted a well drilled Arklow Town Black team and after a tough series of games Arkow edged the games. On the day best for Newtown were Tommie Ryan, Jack Gavin, Leon White and Noah Sinnott-Elliott.
Our under-9s travelled to take on Rathnew and after an exciting series of games there was just a couple of goals in the difference. Best for Newtown on the day were Bobby Spillane (who was unlucky not to score with a bicycle kick), Hugo Clayton and Nathan Donohoe.
Our under-11s (kindly sponsored by Real Debt Solutions) came out on top in a very one sided game against Sporting Greystones White. Luke Turley scored a hat trick while Ryan Collins, Max Roche, William Valentine, Mikey Synnott and David Mackey also hit the net in a good team display.
A late own goal was enough to get the under-12s on the winning trail in the Plate competition to see off Wicklow Rovers 'B' on a 3-2 scoreline. Brooklyn Doyle and Cathal O'Toole scored the other Newtown goals, who had trailed 2-1 at one stage.
Our 13's went down to defeat away to Shillelagh Utd where Aaron Cawley got on the scoresheet for Newtown. The team was well in the game till the home side scored a couple of quickfire goals and then a couple of heads went down.
Can we just remind all parents that all our coaches etc are volunteers who give up their own free time and for a variety of reasons including their love of the game they deserve a lot of plaudits. It can happen from time to time that players can be unavailable to train or play matches but certainly not on a regular basis and certainly not without informing the respective team's coaches. This shows a lack of respect for the teams coaches and also to the players who are putting the commitment in. Also when you sign up for a team/club you must be committed to playing matches both home and away. Can we please bear this in mind going forward,
