GAA club notes
Newtown senior men continued their winning ways with a sixth consecutive win against Dunlavin, who were top of the league. This win 0-8 to 0-4 now sees Newtown go top of the league, well done to all the lads and management. Thanks also to the community for your support; local support at the games as been steadily increasing which is great and terrific support for the team.
The weather held for another exciting GO Games blitz last Friday evening in Newtown. Our under-sevens and under-nines played some exciting games against Ashford and Éire Óg, well done all.
An order for club gear will be placed over the next couple of weeks so get your order in early.
Under-11 boys League: Newtown 2-5 Tinahely 2-7. A narrow defeat for the 11s Tuesday night in Newtown. This was a very evenly contested game all through with never more than a couple of scores between the teams. Tinahely held a one point lead at half time but a few nicely worked scores had Newtown in front for a lot of the second half. A few chances that just slipped the wrong side of the post could have sewn up the game for Newtown but to Tinahely's credit they kicked three good scores in the last few minutes to edge the game. Overall a good free flowing well fought game with some great play from both sides and more games like that throughout the summer should bring on all the players skills in a match situation immensely.
Membership is now due. Fees for the year are - Adults Playing and working €75; Non-playing Adults €50; Students and Unemployed players €50; Juveniles €40 and Nursery €20.

Our under-8s travelled to the hockey pitch in Wicklow to take on Wicklow Rovers Green team. After some brilliant football there was very little between the two teams. On the day Riain Martin and Cian Foley were among the star performers.
Our under-9s and under-10's both have their matches switched to this coming midweek at the request of our opponents.
Our 11's made the long trip to Carnew and played out a 3-3 draw with the home side. Max Roche (2) and William Valentine supplied the goals while Nichita Neaga, Mikey Synnott and Aaron Roy were among the star performers.
Our 12's played two games in the past week. On Thursday evening they hosted Greystones A in the Plate competition and this was a game where the team snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat. Going into the final 10 minutes trailing 2-0 goals from Jake Robertson and PJ Duffy secured a share of the spoils.
Then it was onto Sunday morning and the Cup quarter final first leg in Kilcoole against St Anthony's B After a slow start the team picked up their game and ran out comfortable 6-0 winners. On the day the goalscorers were Jake Robertson (2), Brooklyn Doyle, PJ Duffy, Cathal O'Toole and Keira Farrelly in a good all round team display.
All our teams are back in action and we are still on the lookout for a couple of new players for a couple of our teams so if you are interested please contact our club secretary at the contact details at the end of these notes.
