GAA club notes
Newtown senior men continue their winning performance with a third win in a row in a measured performance against Bray in Newtown last Friday. Newtown played into almost gale conditions in the first half but with some excellent defending managed to keep the opposition to just three points at half time. Newtown made better use of the wind in the second half finishing comfortable winners in the end despite Brays late goal. Well done to management and the team, keep up the good work. The lads take on Éire Óg on Wednesday (tonight) at home, please lend your support.
Congratulations to Newtowns Megan Quigley and Robyn Evans on being a part of the Wicklow Ladies' Football Minor Squad, who took on Louth in the Leinster semi-final last Sunday. Well done, girls.

Pearse Gaels have now played three games and have improved with each game as they come together as a team narrowly losing the AGB before comfortably beating Clann Na Gael 5-13 v 4-3

Newtown Juniors FC
Our 13's had no game last weekend due to a referee's seminar, while our under-11s game was switched to Tuesday, April 30. However, the rest of our teams did seaction and as usual there were plenty of goals in all the games bar one where the defenders were on top on the day.
Our under-8s hosted Arklow Town White in a very even series of games. On the day Kaitlyn Mullen, JP Dunleavy and Jake Fitzsimons-O' Brien were among the star players on the day.
The under-9s hosted St Anthony's Green and their games were very much nip and tuck. On the day Tyler Doyle, Gerry Hoban, David McCormack and Nathan Donohoe were among the star players on the day.
The under-10s enjoyed a good result at home to St Anthony's Yellow where Jack Barlow and Lucas Dowdall both scored hat tricks. JV Kelly, Leon O'Connor and John Turley also scored while Jayden Doyle, Albie Chance and Ryan McDonald all had good games.
In a top of the table game in Whitegates both our 12's and Wicklow Rovers B had to settle for a share of the spoils after a goalless draw. On the day it was a good defensive display from both teams.
All our teams are back in action and we are still on the lookout for a couple of new players for a couple of our teams so if you are interested please contact our club secretary at the contact details at the end of these notes.
The following are the fixtures for the Weekending Saturday/Sunday May 4/5: under-8s away to Coolboy Rangers ko to be confirmed; under-9s away to St Patrick's ko to be confirmed; under-10s away to Arklow United Stripes ko to be confirmed; under-11s at home to Ashford Rovers ko to be confirmed; under-12s - Fixture to be confirmed; under-13s away to Sporting Greystones 'A' ko to be confirmed (Fixtures and KO Times are subject to change)
A reminder that the balance of all membership fees is now overdue.
Our Last Man Standing competition will be heading into week eight next weekend. If Week 6 was a pivotal week in the competition then week 7 seems to have put a spanner in the works because after the dust settle a further nine players went out after all their selections failed to win. That leaves us with two players i.e. Riain Dunning, whose selection Liverpool easily dispatched of Huddersfield Town on Friday night, while Martin 'Red' Hamilton had Sergio Aguero to thank for his safe passage in Manchester City's win over Burnley. Week 8 will be for the fixtures Friday May 3 to Monday May 6. All selections will need to be in on or before 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 2. Good luck to Riain and Red in week eight of the competition. Thank you everyone for your continued support.
Three players from the club will be celebrating a birthday in the coming week and they are Ryan McDonald and John Turley from the under-10s and Patrick Martin from the under-13s. Happy birthday lads from everyone at Newtown Juniors FC.
