Kilmacanogue Horse Show

It is now less than a week to the annual Kilmacanogue Horse Show which will take place on Saturday, July 27, so please mark it in your diaries. This committee and group are run on a purely voluntary basis and so many charities and organisations, many of whom in Kilmacanogue, have benefited greatly from the show over the years. Everyone is very busy getting ponies and horses looking their best for next week. The biggest tip this week is to get your entry in online by today (July 23) - this will save precious time on the day and you should visit kilmacanoguehorseshow.com and choose the best classes for your steed from the schedule listed.

Of course, you don't have to be horsey type to have a great time at Kilmacanogue Horse Show. This year has a wide range of new attractions for all ages - free pony rides and a free Bouncy Castle while your dog will just love the show. There is a free dog agility course for you and your four-legged friend to test your skills over an obstacle course and great fun for all is guaranteed. The dog show has a class for every kind of dog and is the without doubt the friendliest dog show in Ireland. You can also see the best Wicklow sheep and everyone is a gambler when it comes to €1 to guess the 'weight of the lamb'. Enjoy a variety of trade stands including delicious Conroy Raspberries and ice-cream - a day for all ages to enjoy. All entry tickets go into a magnificent draw where you have a chance to win B&B in the Powerscourt Hotel, or a free year-long family pass to the Powerscourt and Kilruddery Estates, dinner vouchers in local restaurants and much more. Don't miss it.

Second Championship

Well done to the Kilmacanogue team Kilmacanogue, who made it two wins from two in the Intermediate Championship against Ballymanus last Saturday. In a tight first half, Ballymanus just edged it by five points to three. Andrew Molloy pointed after the restart but then came the turning point, a rare goal by Gavan Burke followed by another four points for Kilmacanogue to lead by 1-08 to five points before Ballymanus scored their first point of the second half. Points were traded from there on in and Kilmacanogue had two wins from two with the final score 1-10 to nine points in favour of the Green and Gold. Well done, lads.

Captains Day

Plucks Golf Society Captain Greg O'Donnell hosted a brilliant Captains day weekend in Farnham Estate in County Cavan. Tom Byrne played some fantastic golf on the day to win with a score of 38 points. Eddie Byrne was second with 33 points with Ger Tuohy third on 32 points. Category One winner was Mark Quinn, Category Two winner Brendan Finnerty and Category Three was won by Ed Mulligan. The Front Nine Prize was won by Jim Messett with Alan O'Neill winning the Back Nine. Nearest the pin winners were Mark Quinn and Anthony McGrath and longest drive was hit by Graham Tighe.

All the members enjoyed the outing and a big thanks to the committee for all their efforts in arranging same.
