We had a cracker of a football match in Aughrim on Thursday last when our Division 2 team beat Kilcoole in the Liam Cullen Cup Final. This competition was played out between the top four teams in the league. Our lads were under pressure in the first half with the east coast team completely dominating the midfield area but a few changes at half time changed the game completely. John Hanbidge and Seán Brannigan got control in midfield and our forwards increased the scoring tally. This was our first cup in the area since the Wilson Buttle Cup in 2014 and while there was no bonfire we got a nice practice for a county championship win, we hope. The team was: ray Halloran, K Osbourne, A Tutty, C Grace, H Monaghan (0-2), Joe Whyte (captain), O'Adler, C Healy (0-1), B Lennon, E Kelly, L Monaghan, G Healy (0-1), Alan Daly (1-3), L Mullen (0-3), G Finlay. The subs were: S Brannigan (1-0), John Hanbidge, Des Mann, D O'Neill and C Osbourne.
Our junior team had no game last week. Friendlies against Tullow and Castledermot failed to take place. They will play Valleymount in Donard on Thursday next.
There was no lotto winner last week. Four lucky dips went to Dea and Matty Moran, Niamh and Gertie, Lisa Casey and Anne Hughes, who won €50 each. The jackpot is now €7,200.
