BBKR. Defibrillators for our community. Calling upon residents of our community to attend an open public meeting to discuss the merits of supplying and installing a number of Defibrillators at strategic locations throughout the local area. There is no person immune to Cardiac Arrest, it can happen to anyone at any time.

If you are interested in attending this meeting, getting involved on a working group, helping out with fundraising, or even expressing your opinions and ideas, please come along.

This meeting will take place in Jack Whites Pub on Thursday, April 4, at 8 p.m.


Card drive

45 Card drive will be on in Glenealy Village Hall this Thursday night, March 21. Whist partner card drive will be the following Thursday night, March 28, Both nights at 8.30 p.m. New players are always welcome.

Indoor bowls

Indoor bowls is played in Glenealy Village Hall every Wednesday night at 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. just drop in any Wednesday night if you would like to start playing in door bowls great hobby for the winter nights. For more information contact 0404 44040.

Cottage market

The cottage market, located in the Glenealy Garden Centre takes place every Saturday from 10 a.m. till 3 p.m. The market features local and organic vegetables, freshly baked breads, cakes and savouries, as well as jams, chutneys and tarts. Locally produced wild honey is on offer as are healthy Aloe products. Beautiful wood turned pieces, artisan gifts such as delicate dried flower crafts, tea, coffee and healthy snacks are also available. So come along, support local Wicklow producers and enjoy the atmosphere in our little cottage market. New stall holders are always.

Pilates classes

Pilates classes now running in Glenealy Village Hall on Tuesday evenings. Running from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Beginners/improvers and all ages welcome. seven weeks for €70 or drop-in-rate €12. Pilates strengthens core muscles, improves muscle control, flexibility, co-ordination, strength and tone, as well as alignment and breathing. To book your place contact Zara Elkinson at 087 9367474. Gymboree play and music classes continue every Tuesday mornings at 11 a.m. in Glenealy Village Hall. Suitable for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers from six months - four years. teach your child a love of music through songs, dance, movement fun and musical instruments, exploring various different music styles. Saturdays playgroup

The Saturdays playgroup is back in Glenealy village on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to midday. Fun play for pre-school children and up. Cost is €3 per family.

Community games

Sunday evening, March 24, is the date for Ashford and Glenealy Area Talent Final in Glenealy village hall commencing at 5 p.m. for all children who reside in the area are welcome to showcase their talent in music, song, dance and recitation with under-12 and under-16 girls and boys in each event going forward to the county final which our area will host in Glenealy village hall on Sunday, April 14.

Toddlers Haven playgroup

Foroige youth club

Glenealy Foróige youth club is in Glenealy Village hall every Friday night from 8 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. for youths aged 12 years to 18 years. Anyone interested can come along any Friday night for more information contact 0404 44040.

ORGANIC HORTICULTURE COURSE QQI L5 - Part-Time Training Course 26 weeks (2.5 days per week). Commences May 2019 - Ideal opportunity of a funded training programme aimed at individuals with an interest in gaining a recognised qualification and employment in Organic Horticulture/Gardening. School news

Aldi SCHOOL PLAYING FIELDS - We are registered for this competition so would be grateful for Stickers etc currently available in Aldi Stores. We have one chart full and have started to complete a second one.

SPRINGTIME DRAW - Congratulations to the winners in Draws 1, 2, 3 and four. Over 260 tickets in the draw with sincere thanks to the local community for support.

WALK ON WEDNESDAY - Children will walk to school on Wednesdays. Caution needed re Traffic etc on roads leading to school.

CLOTHES COLLECTION - Another Clothing Collection coming up with bags4school. Bags available in school office. Collection will take place on Wednesday, April 3.

ICA news

Newtownmountkennedy Guild of the ICA hold their meetings on the first Monday of each month in the community centre, Newtown at 8 p.m. New members are always welcome.

District forum

GAA club notes

Congratulations to Newtown gent Jim O'Riordan, who received the Pat Trainer Lifetime Achievement and commitment to the promotion of Gaelic games in our primary schools at the Cornmarket Cumann na mBunscol National Awards Night in Sligo on Friday, March 8. Well done Jim on a well deserved award. Congratulations also to Kilcoole Primary School, who picked up two awards on the night.

Newtown senior men had a disappointing result against Avondale on Friday night last in a match marked by Newtown errors. Newtown have a young team who have been training well at each training session and we hope to reap the rewards of our training on the pitch in future games.,

Under-11 boys training continues on the pitch on Wednesday night at 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. Old and new players always welcome, players must be born in either 2008 or 2009. Any inquiries re under-11s please contact Peter at 087 7633089 or Ruari 087 9517531.

Newtown's very successful nursery will be starting back every Saturday morning from April. This will be an hour long fun packed programme for children from aged three that helps them learn the fundamental movements and basic GAA skills.

The Seán McShane memorial golf classic is scheduled for Sunday, June 3, proceeds will be split between Newtown GAA and Newtown centre for autism. Year on year this is a hugely popular and great day out so get your name in early, €400 for team of four or tee sponsorship at €100. Contact Dominic Leech, Ally Taylor or John McShane.

Weekly lotto takes place every Monday evening, tickets can be purchased from any committee member or from local shops at cost of €2 each, all proceeds go to support the club. There was no winner last week which means this week's jackpot is an even €5k, numbers drawn were 10, 15, 23 and 24. One lucky winner took home €200 after matching three numbers.

Newtown juniors FC

No games last weekend due to the Bank Holiday weekend but the club did take part in the St Patrick's Day parade where we were joined by Jim, Wickla, Charlie Snr, Charlie Jnr and Tommy for their first ever parade in Newtown. Well done to everybody who marched with the club especially the girls and boys who play for the club and who provided loads of colour and made lots of noise.

All our teams are back in action and we are still looking for new players for a couple of our teams so if you are interested please contact our club secretary. Our Development Squad practise every Saturday morning in the community centre Sports Hall from 10 a.m. till 11 a.m. For all matters relating to training times etc for all our teams please contact our secretary Hughie at the contact details below.

Membership fees have to be collected as well and our fees for the 2019 season are as follows, one Player - €70, two Players (family) - €120 and three Players (family) - €150. A deposit of €25 per player will be required by Sunday, March 31, with the balance paid by Sunday, April 28. Membership forms have been distributed to all players and must be returned by the deadline along with deposit. Anyone, who didn't get a membership form please make contact with any committee member and they will get one to you. The next stage of the FAInet process is to get all the parents and players to sign the relevant forms and this part of the process is almost complete.

Our Last Man Standing competition is having a bit of a break at the moment. Due to the FA Cup and International fixtures our remaining 76 players can have an extra week or two to study the form guide. Week four fixtures will be for the weekend of Sat. March 30-Mon. April 1. Fixtures for week four will be sent to all remaining players on Monday, March 24. All selections for week four must be in on or before 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 28. All money we take in go towards the youth of the area.

We have four players from the club celebrating their birthdays in the coming week and they are Erik Lis and Alex Mackey from the under-nines, Oisin Duffy from the under-10s and Ignacy Szpilka from the under-13s. Happy birthday lads from everyone at Newtown Juniors FC.

On a sadder note we extend our condolences to the family and friiends of Ian Sullivan (Killadreenan) who passed away last week. May he rest in peace.
