Aughrim - Family Fun Run/Walk: Aughrim GAA and Luke O'Toole's under-14 Féile teams are holding a family fun run/walk on Sunday, May 19, at 4 p.m. along the beautiful Ciaran Shannon walk. It starts and finishes at the Aughrim sports complex where there will be refreshments served after. Entry fee is adults €5 and children €3. All support for this great bunch of lads will be very much appreciated.

Yoga Classes

New Wednesday Evening six wk course started on May 1 €60 for six-week course in the Sports complex. Classes continue on Monday Mornings 9.30 a.m. to 10.45 a.m. Drop in rate €13. Vintage Tractor and Car Run

Wicklow Vintage Club is holding their annual Vintage Tractor and Car Run on Sunday, May 12, at midday from St Kevin's Hall Ballycoog. All are most welcome to attend and homemade refreshments will be served in the hall afterwards.

Active Retirement

Our next yoga class will commence on May 14 for three weeks. €15 on the day in an envelope with your name please. Our Spa Day takes place on May 23. We are planning a day's outing for June 28 to the Auberitum in Leighlim Bridge and a visit to the Royal Oak Distillery near by. Details at a future date.

Charity Walk

The annual Jimmy Cullen, 4A's Hillwalking Club Sponsored Walk in aid of the children of Chernoybl Foundation (Arklow Gorey Group) takes place on Sunday, May 12, There will be three walks, 10K, 5K and the Ciaran Shannon Route. Runners are most welcome. Registration is €10 on the day and the event start will be at the Playground End of Annacurra Church car park. Registration opens at 09.30 and event starts at 10 a.m. Event is an unsupported one but all routes will be well marked. Pre-registration and sponsorship cards are available by contacting Jane Cullen at 087 2703498.

Castlemacadam Parish Sale

The annual Castlemacadam Parish Sale on Saturday, May 18, at 2 p.m. in the Hartin Hall, cake stall, Vegetable Stall, and many more please come along bring a friend and have a cup of tea and chat. Many thanks Hazel.

Lotto

The numbers 6, 8, 14 and 16 were drawn in this week's Aughrim Sports club lotto April 29 the jackpot was not won. There were no match-three winners. The jackpot is €2,100.

County Fleadh

This year Anne Devlin CCE will host the Wicklow County Fleadh on this Saturday, May 11, in the Sacred Heart National School Aughrim starting at 10 a.m. This County Fleadh is a celebration of Traditional Music, song, dance and Comhrá Gaeilge, with competitions in all age groups, celebrating our national culture. Everyone is welcome to join us and enjoy the day, Admission at the Door.

Town and Country Market

A warm welcome to all at Aughrim Town and Country Market, Rednagh Road, every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy the buzz in the Pavilion Cafe as you catch up with friends over coffee and treats. Delicious brunches and light lunches are also on offer. Fresh local produce available, including organic fruit and vegetables, locally produced meat, eggs, preserves and fresh home baked bread and cakes. Community Games

Congratulations to all our boys and girls who participated in the County Wicklow Art and Handwriting Final Results. A special well done to Sean Byrne in the U12 handwriting who now goes on to represent County Wicklow in the National Finals in UL Limerick in May.

Well done to our u15 Boys Badminton team who reached the Leinsters. Daniel. Padraig. Oliver and Joshua. They played a great game but unfortunately they were beaten by Kilcormac Killoughey from Offaly.

Reminder - Our area athletic finals take place on Monday, May 13, in the community-field and all qualifiers go forward to the County Wicklow track and field finals in Shillelagh on Saturday, June 15, registration from 6 p.m. All children welcome from Tots to U16. A fun filled evening.

GAA News

Our next adult match in the league is against Hollywood at home next Sunday morning, May 12. Please come along and support the lads. Reminder of our coffee and cake morning fundraiser for Luke O'Tooles under-14 Féile Team on Friday, May 10, in Murphy's Hotel from 9.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please come along for a cuppa and chat. The boys from Tinahely and Aughrim are representing their county at the all-Ireland Hurling Féile competition in Cork. All support is very much appreciated.

Table Quiz

Aughrim community group are holding a table quiz in O'Toole's Pub on this Friday May 10 starting at 9 p.m. Your support would be much appreciated.

Whist partner Card drive will be on in Glenealy Village Hall this Thursday night, May 9. 45 card drive will be the following Thursday night May 16 - both nights at 8.30 p.m. New players are always welcome.

Indoor bowls

Pilates classes

Training for the children who will represent County Wicklow Community Games in Cross Country in Limerick continues every Thursday night in Rugby Club Rathdrum under trainer Bill Porter starting at 6.40 p.m.

Saturday playgroup

The Saturdays playgroup is back in Glenealy village on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to midday. Fun play for pre-school children and up. Cost is €3 per family.

ORGANIC HORTICULTURE - BIODIVERSITY AND NATURAL ENVIRONMENT QQI L5 Pat time fully funded training course - two and a half days per week. Commences May 2019. Ideal opportunity of a funded training programme aimed at individuals with an interest in gaining a recognised qualification and employment in Organic Horticulture. Tidy Towns

Starting from Monday, May 13, and every Monday thereafter, Rathdrum Tidy Towns will meet in the Market Square, Rathdrum at 7 p.m. to tidy up, pick litter and do the other normal jobs. Please come and join us, everyone is welcome, your help would be much appreciated.

The Tidy Towns Committee would like to wish Pat Kennedy and Jimmy O'Shaughnessy well in the local elections.

Thursday walks

Last week reverted to more normal weather than the previous week and 34 walkers turned up in Clara Vale on a bright evening. The were ably led round by guest leader for the week, Ned Kelly. A big thanks to Ned for stepping into the breach.

This week we head to Ballinderry with usual meeting time of 7 p.m. in Parnell Memorial Park and 7.15 at the start point.

Historical talk

Carmen Cullen, the niece of Delia Murphy the ballad singer of 'The Spinning Wheel' fame will give a talk to the society on Monday, May 13, in the RDA Annex entitled 'Hello Delia Murphy'. Interwoven with family reminiscences and photographs, as well as commentary on Delia's life and songs, Carmen will sing a selection of her aunt's songs. She will be accompanied by guitarist Gerry Anderson from Ashford. The talk will take place at 8 p.m. and all are welcome. Admission is €3.

The Famine Graveyard

Thank you to everyone who attend the unveiling of the information panel at the Famine Graveyard. Cllr Pat Kennedy opened the event by welcoming everyone and thanking Kevin Byrne for being there to unveil the panel, Kevin's book 'Time did not stand still, ;The history of St Colman's Hospital' is the source of most of the information on the panel. He also thanked Catherine Wright and Sarah Kinsella from Wicklow County Council for all their help.

Pat acknowledged the support from the playground committee, John Porter construction and Wicklow County Council ensuring that this special area was not forgotten. He paid special thanks and appreciation to Mary Doyle and her team of volunteers for their dedication to maintaining the graveyard.

Catherine Wright said it was a great honour to attend this event and noted it was a place where so many people had been buried in unmarked graves that is was so important to remember them. She thanked Kevin for his work and research into this area, Catherine finished by reading an extract from Kevin's book. Rev O'Reilly finished proceedings with a prayer and blessing.

We would like to thank Kevin Byrne and his family for attending the event, it was fitting that Kevin should unveil this panel.
