Aughrim Community Games - County Wicklow Track and Field finals will take place next Saturday, June 15, in Shillelagh. Please gather for the parade from 9am, collecting singlet and label off your coaches. Please wear white t shirt with dark shorts. Bring plenty of water, sun cream (we hope) and a picnic.

Active Retirement

Yoga is over for now but will resume in the autumn. Our outing to the Royal Oak Distillery and the Arboretum on June 28 has been arranged. The bus will depart from Lawless' at 9.30 a.m. We will have a break for coffee on the way to the distillery. Lunch will be around 2 p.m. The cost for the tour and bus, excluding lunch, is €30. Summer Fest is on June 25 in the Brockagh Centre. This is a free fun day out. Everyone is welcome.

Corpus Christi Procession

All First Holy Communion children are invited to the Corpus Christi Procession on Sunday, June 23, at the 10.30.am. Mass.

Cemetery Mass

The annual Cemetery Mass and blessing of the graves in Askinagap will take place on Sunday, June 23, at 2.00.pm.

Aughrim Rangers

Aughrim Rangers send their congratulations to the Aughrim camogie under-14 team for winning the all-Ireland Shield in the national feile held in Cork over the last weekend.

Clothes Collection

Aughrim Rangers Youths Football Club is holding a Fundraising Clothes Collection on Saturday, June 15, at Aughrim Community Field. Please drop off your bags from 11.00.am. - 2.00.pm and all support will be very much appreciated.

Tidy Towns - Friday Night 'Freshin Up'

A big thank you to the 15 strong group who turned out on Friday night to lend a hand. Great progress was made as the old Tinakilly Bridge area was tidied. 18 bags of garden waste were gathered by young and old alike. On Thursday afternoon, a group a volunteers planted the containers on the bridge with flowers kindly sponsored by Woodfab. On Sunday afternoon a group of 'Junior Aughrim Tidy Towners' met at the community field and litter picked along Jim's Way and the Renagh Road Despite torrential rain two green sacks of rubbish were collected. Well done to all.

We are now in the official adjudication period and we appeal to everyone to keep their areas tidy. We will meet again this Friday evening at 7 p.m. at the monument to continue to clean the town. The annual Cemetery Masses and blessing of the graves will take place as follows: Rosahane Cemetery, Sunday, July 14, at 2.00.pm. Upper Macreddin Cemetery Monday, July 15, at 8.00.pm. Lower Macreddin Cemetery Monday, July 22, at 8.00.pm.

Lotto

The numbers 3, 10, 17 and 23 were drawn in this week's Aughrim Sports club lotto June 3 the jackpot was not won. Match-three winners were MJ Evesson, Dominic, Sophie and Charlotte O'Loughlin, Templelusk and Eric and Christy, Rednagh Hill. The jackpot is €2,850.

Town and Country Market

A warm welcome to all at Aughrim Town and Country Market, Rednagh Road, every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy the buzz in the Pavilion Cafe as you catch up with friends over coffee and treats. Delicious brunches and light lunches are also on offer. Fresh local produce available, including organic fruit and vegetables, locally produced meat, eggs, preserves and fresh home baked bread and cakes. Sister Anne's Mission To Haiti

Preparations are in progress for the coffee morning on Saturday, June 15, from 10 a.m. 2 p.m. at Hillbreeze Barniskey. The plan is to raise €5,000 to provide a house for a widow and her children who live in abject poverty, so far a total of €3,395 has been reached. Over the years sister has had nearly 300 houses built to protect the poor or handicapped people. In doing so she keeps a group of men employed who in turn are enable to feed and school their own children.

Once again sister Anne depends on our generosity as she works in the name of christ and on our behalf to bring hope, love and dignity to the poorest of the poor. We ask you again to be with us by your presence or by donating to our fund. Thank you.

As usual, please remember to wear proper walking boots, pack full rain gear and bring adequate food and drink.

Hollywood Comes to Askamore

These are some of the events organised by the groups who are taking part in Hollywood comes to Askamore, a table quiz on Friday the 14th, tractor run on Sunday the 16th, Mrs Doyle's tea party on Sunday the 30th, all support welcome, see all calendar of events on askamorecommunity.wordpress.com. The Oscars awards will be held on Saturday, October 26, in the Amber Springs Hotel Gorey.

Split the Pot

The lucky winner of €201 in our split-the-pot draw of Scoil Aodan Naofa Carnew was Hazel Bollard. Congratulations. The seller's prize was won by Laoise Doran, who won a €10 voucher for Victors and the lucky-dip winner was Holly Bollard.

Ballyellis NS Split the Pot

Friday, June 7, winner of split-the-pot is Thomas and Kate Doran, Burrow, Ballyellis - winning €120. We thank everyone for supporting split-the-pot. Envelopes can be obtained from the School or any parent and from Ashling Walsh after weekend Mass in Askamore Church. Draws will take place every Friday morning in Ballyellis. School.

Coolgreany-Johnstown

Gymkhana

The annual Gymkhana will be held in Coolgreany on Sunday, July 7, in Coolgreany, and plans are advancing favourably for that day, this is always a very worth - while with some lovely Trophies and Cups to be won in all of the different horse and pony events, and also some great jumping in all of the Children's jumping classes. In conjunction with the Gymkhana there will be a Monster Raffle, with tickets on sale at present. The prize money here is first prize of €500, second prize of €200, and three other prizes of €100 each. Tickets are €2 each or book of three tickets is €5. Draw will take place on day of Gymkhana. All proceeds will go to St David's Church Funds. Everyone welcome.

Tidy Towns

It is that time of year again when adjudication of the Tidy Towns Competition is about to begin, and the local committee are appealing for the support of as many as possible to help with the cleaning up of all the roads around the village and in the village itself to help improve the area.

Barbecue

The local barbecue will be held on Saturday, June 22, on the Main Street opposite O'Rafferty's Pub, which is usually a very enjoyable night.

On the night there will be a Book Stall Sale where a very large variety of Books will be on sale which may be of great interest to many people, so why not come along and enjoy some nice food and get some good value in reading material.

Vintage Club

A meeting of Coolgreany Vintage Club Members will take place in the Coolgreany Inn on this Wednesday at 8.30 p.m., to start preparations for our vintage day on September 8.

The club is appealing to the community for support for their weekly lotto which has changed slightly due to the closure of the local post office.

Thursday Walks

Another fine dry evening last week for the 37 participants to enjoy the delights of the Brag/Whitewashed Gables Circuit. There were greats views over the Upper Glenmalure Valley, Table Track and Carrawaystick Waterfall. Despite the dry evening, no one escaped without getting their footwear mucky when the group encountered a section where tree felling was in progress. Great amusement followed.

This week takes us to the Spinc in Glendalough, meeting as usual in Parnell Memorial Park for 7 p.m. and the Royal Hotel car park for 7.20.
