GAA News

Congratulations to our juvenile players Cameron Byrne, Dermot Toomey and Alex Kavanagh, who have picked for the Wicklow under-14 Football Panel 2019.

Active Retirement

On behalf of the committee I would like to wish all our members a Happy New Year. Chair yoga is back on January 15 for 3weeks. €15 is due on the day.

Town and Country Market

The town and Country resumes on Saturday next, January 12, in the Pavilion, Rednagh Road 10 p.m. to 2 p.m. All enquiries to Caroline 086 0865838.

Raffle Results

A big thank you to all who supported our Juvenile Christmas raffle which was a huge success. To all those who sold tickets, bought tickets, sponsored prizes and attended the draw on the night in O'Toole's the club is very grateful. Congratulations to David Sheehy, who won the first prize of an Eoin O'Connor fine art print, second prize Byrnes Londis shopping voucher was won by David and Mags White, and third prize Gift voucher for Brook Lodge and Macreddin village was won by Kelli Mooney. Set dancing

Set dancing classes resume this Thursday, January 10, at 8.30 p.m. in the Community Hall Aughrim (beside Londis). Paddy and Yvonne are looking forward to welcoming everyone back after the Christmas break. New members are always welcome.

A New six-week mixed level yoga courses commencing week of January 14 in Aughrim Sports Complex.

Mikel Murfi Play for Carnew

Theatre goers will be delighted to hear of an upcoming theatre treat in January. Coláiste Bhríde are delighted to announce that Mikel Murfi will perform his new play 'I Hear You and Rejoice', in St Brigid's Hall Carnew on Thursday, January 31, for one night only.

This play is a sequel to his previous play 'The Man in the Woman's Shoes'. He has toured in London, New York and Edinburgh with this new play so it will be great to see him return to our local community.

Tickets will cost €16 each and will include a cheese and wine reception. They can be booked by calling 086 8500607 or calling into the school reception.

40th birthday

Congratulations to Niall Byrne, formally Croghan View, who has been living in Colorado USA for the past 20 years. He arrived home for Christmas to join his family for the first Christmas in all of those 20 years, and was accompanied by his wife Heather and children Nolan and Wiley, and linked up with his parents Bernie and Joe, and siblings Joanne, Sarah, Una, Ciaran, Joseph, Owen, Grainne, who travelled all the way from Canada, and Meabh.

The whole family celebrated Niall's 40th birthday on Christmas Day as a big family occasion, which was very much enjoyed by all involved. Niall has returned home to the USA, and we wish him and his family continued success in his adopted country.

Vintage Club

Just a brief reminder to everyone who wishes to become a member of the club to make application immediately. Without being a member you may not be able to get insurance for your vintage vehicles. Birthday greetings to Kyle O'Rafferty, Ballylarkin, Coolgreany, who celebrated his second birthday last Tuesday. Congratulations also to Cormac Whitmore Carter, who celebrated his 20th birthday last week, when family and friends enjoyed a great evening with Cormac.

45 Card Drive

A very successful 45 Card Drive is ongoing in the Coolgreany Inn on each Friday night at 8.30 p.m., everyone is very welcome to come along for a good night of craic at the cards, and some lovely finger food thrown in for good measure. So please join us if you enjoy a game of 45.

Old Kilnenor Historical Society

'Titania's Palace' the acclaimed short film continues its tour when it will be screened at the May Byrne House (upstairs, side entrance) on Wednesday, January 9, at 8 p.m. Admission is free.

In the 15-minute film Maureen Bushe, Margaret Byrne, Alice Sheehan, Séamus Bolger, Patrick Byrne, Bill McCormack, and William Willoughby recall visiting the famous 'Doll's House' at Ballynastragh. Schoolchildren draw their impressions. With footage of the actual palace shot in Denmark, and score by Trevor Knight.

The film will be followed by an illustrated talk with James Grannell on the design and construction of Titania's Palace, the Esmonde family, and the Victorian 'tiny-craft' movement.

GAA Healthy Club Update

CASTLETOWN LIAM MELLOWS GAA HEALTHY CLUB UPDATE: Now is your chance to get the New Year off to a good start. A five weeks session of Yoga with Maura starts on term Tuesday, January 8, to February 5. Classes are from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the club house in Castletown. To book text Maura at 087 7866349.

Chair Yoga with Sarah resumes on January 7, at 10.45 a.m. in the Anchor Bar (side door into the function room) for a six weeks session. No need to book just come along and give it a go. Chair yoga lessens the impact of chronic illnesses and pain. It reduced stress and improves mental health. It is particularly good for anyone wanting to improve flexibility and strengthen their joints after injury or illness.

If yoga is not your thing, why not come along on Thursday nights for some SOSA dance fitness. Low impact, high energy and tonnes of fun.
