Around the districts: Ashford, Donard, Hollywood and Tinahely

Ashford - Community Games: Congratulations to the children who won medals last weekend at the art and Handwriting finals in Dunlavin.

The Track and Field Finals will be held in Shillelagh Saturday, June 15 - children interested in taking part should contact Andrea at 086 494774 Ann Marie 083 1522627.

Training for the children who will represent County Wicklow Community Games in Cross Country in Limerick continues every Thursday night in Rugby Club Rathdrum under trainer Bill Porter starting at 6.40 p.m.

Donard

Community Games

Congratulations to all our art and Model Making children who competed in the County Finals. We have Evinn Nolan and Alana Quinn through to the all-Ireland Finals on May 25 in Limerick.

Athletic training is on every Wednessday at 4 p.m. in Donard GAA grounds. Our area finals will be held there too on Sunday, May 19, at 10 a.m.

Football club notes

There were no games last due to Punchestown Races.

Our Senior camogie team was in action last week in Newbridge in the Kildare Senior League, and they were pipped at the post by the local Moorfield team, 3-15 to 3-11. Our scorers were Kelly O'Neill (2-6), Katie Tyrrell (1-3) and Sophie Mills (0-2). The team was Nora O'Neill, Katie Danes, Jenny Tyrrell, Amy Barrett Sophie Mills, Claire Whelan, Casey Kelly, Chloe Dwyer, Amine Tyrrell, Raisin Toomey, Kelly O'Neill Emma Hayden, Carmel Whelan, Issy Keenehan, and Rose Dunne Cullen. This a 13 aside competition.

There was no lotto winner last week. Patrick McDonnell, Margaret Walsh and Adam McDermott matched three and won €67 each. Peter Case won the seller's prize. The jackpot is now €4,800.

Hollywood

Hollywood Fair 2019

The Hollywood Fair takes place this year on Saturday and Sunday, August 10, and 11. As in previous years a Hollywood Fair book will be published to coincide with the event. Tidy Towns

We would like to thank everyone for their very generous support for our recent cake sale and raffle. Raffle results. Paul Crowe, Breda Reid, Patsy Glennon, Margo Griffin, Anne LeGrue, Anna Corrigan, Ollie Burke, Jimmy Wilson, Mary O'Callaghan. Our work evenings have started, we meet at 7 p.m. and work mornings also continue as we prepare for the judging of the national competition, new faces are more than welcome.

Walking and Trails Club

The Hollywood Walking and Trails Club held their first meeting this week in Tutty's Pub Hollywood. This meeting was very well attend by enthusiastic walkers from Hollywood, Blessington and Dunlavin areas, all with various walking experience from beginners to proficient in hill walkers. Guest speakers, John O'Reilly from the Immal Walking Club and Helen Lawless Hill Walking Ireland discussed the process of setting up the walking club paying particular attention to legal structures, insurance and the responsibility of the recreational user for their own safety and that of others. Helen Lawless spoke about the health benefits of walking, the preservation of the natural environmental along with the importance of encouraging families and young people to actively participate in hill walking. Citing contact with nature can rebalance ones equilibrium in this busy world.

Hollywood GAA

The Hollywood GAA lotto draw results May 1. The number drawn were 17, 18, 19 and 20. There was no winner of the jackpot. The seller's prize went to Colin Tutty 521. The €50 winners were Luke Kelly 328, Tar Kelly 327, Shirley, Sinéad, Suzanne 159. The next draw will be held in Tutty's on Wednesday, May 15, for a jackpot of €9,800. Under-seven and under-nine hurling is on every Tuesday night seven - 8 p.m. in Hollywood for both boys and girls. Hurls and Helmets will be available for new comers.If anyone has spare helmets or hurls please bring them along. Juvenile football training for boys and girls has started back on Thursday nights 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Everyone welcome. Club membership is now due and please remember your child is not insured to train or play unless they are registered. Mouth guards are mandatory. New coaches are welcome and needed.

Clothes Recycling drive for the next five weeks in aid of St Kevin's Juvenile Football Club. Please be careful as to whom you allow into your home as there are Conmen and Women calling to houses in the locality. Be alert at all times, if in doubt contact the Guards in Blessington 045 865202. Also it is important to look out for each other in our Neighbour Hoods and be vigilant at all times.

Hollywood Bingo

Bingo takes place in the Hollywood Centre every Thursday night at 8.30 p.m. We have two jackpots - €3,000 and €3,850 to play for each week.

Doctor's Clinic

The Doctor's Clinic will be held on the first and third Thursday of each month from 9.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.

Tinahely

Coffee and cake morning

Luke O'Tooles under-14 Féile team are hosting a coffee morning on Friday, May 10, in Murphys Hotel from 9.30 a.m. till 1 p.m. Please come along for a cuppa and chat. The boys from Tinahely and Aughrim are representing their county at the all-Ireland Hurling Féile competition in Cork. All support is very much appreciated.

Tinahely walking club

The following are the walks for the next two weeks for Tinahely Walking club. May 12: Askamore. Level B, 12km, 3.5 hours. Meet Askamore 10 a.m. May 19: Kyle Loop. Level B, 18km, 4.5 hours. Meet Tinahely GAA car park 10 a.m.

As usual, please remember to wear proper walking boots, pack full rain gear and bring adequate food and drink.

Thank you

Anna Hedderman hosted a very successful coffee and Cake fundraiser on Friday, May 3, in the Courthouse Arts Centre, and all for a worthy cause. In excess of €1,800 was raised. This event was part of Anna's fundraising campaign for Nurture Africa, a charity she will be volunteering with on a three-week placement in Uganda during June. A selection of delicious homemade cakes were served which went down a treat. Thanks to all who baked. Thanks to everyone who supported, helped and contributed in any way to this fundraiser. Your generosity is so much appreciated.

Kilcommon NS fair day

The Kilcommon National School Fair Day takes place this Friday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cakes, tea, good as new clothes, plants, toys and much more. Playground games and fun for all the family.

Jimmy Cullen sponsored walk

The annual Jimmy Cullen, 4A's Hill walking Club Sponsored Walk in aid of the children of Chernoybl Foundation (Arklow Gorey Group) takes place on Sunday, May 12. There will be three walks, 10K, 5K and the Ciaran Shannon Route. Runners are most welcome. Registration is €10 on the day and the event start will be at the Playground End of Annacurra Church car park. Registration open at 09.30 and event starts at 10 a.m. Event is an unsupported one but all routes will be well marked. Preregistration and sponsorship cards are available by contacting Jane Cullen at 087 2703498.
