Annacurra: Community Games - Aughrim Annacurra Community Games will hold their AGM on Wednesday, October 9, in Aughrim Sports Field and hall at 8.30pm.

We are always delighted to see new faces not to come on any committees but to listen and hear what we are all about. We have on average over 80 children taking part in various activities of Community Games. Please follow our FB page. To keep the games going we always need support and new volunteers. Look forward to seeing you.

Fundraiser table quiz

Please support the upcoming fundraising table quiz for the Coláiste Bhríde Student Concert Band's trip to France. The quiz will take place in the Little Moon, Coolboy on Friday, October 4, at 8.30 p.m. Cost for adults €10 and €5 for students. There will also be a raffle on the night.

East Coast Night Truck Run

A night truck run will be held on Saturday, October 5, at 7 p.m. This run is a fundraiser for Lauralynn Children's Hospice. Registration is from 3 p.m. in the Community Field, Aughrim.

The run will leave the Community Field at 7 p.m. and will go through the village, then proceed to Arklow, Gorey, Carnew and back to Aughrim. This is for a very good cause and we hope people will come out to see the trucks and donate to the bucket collection. There may be some traffic delays while truck run is going through and parking restrictions will also be in place between 6.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. There may be some parking restrictions on the Rednagh Road during the afternoon.

A raffle will be held in O'Toole's Pub on the night of the run. Tickets for the raffle are available in Byrne's Londis, in the field on the day of the run, in O'Toole's pub on the night or by contacting Denis Newsome at 087 2387216.

Whist drive

whist drive is on in Annacurra Community Hall on next Saturday night, October 5, starting at 9 p.m.

Halloween camp

The Brickx Club and Krafty Kidz Art Club are taking bookings for a Halloween camp in Annacurra Community Hall. Book now to secure a place over midterm. Dates: Tuesday, October 29, to Friday, November 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily. Cost €50. Ages three to 12 years.

Taekwondo for children

Class iss back on Wednesdays in Annacurra Community Hall from 4.30 p.m. to 5.15 p.m. Cost: €25 per month (monthly fees only). Age group: five to 12 years. Taekwon Do is renowned for developing focus, coordination, physical strength, self confidence, agility, balance, discipline and respect. Tai Chi/Qi Gong

Beginners' class is back on Wednesday mornings from 11 a.m. to midday in Annacurra Community Hall. Cost €80 for eight-week block. Class suitable for adults of all ages.

Tai Chi and Qi Gong helps to relieve stress, increase stamina, improve balance and prevent falls. It also helps to increase flexibility and mobility and has many other health benefits. Active Retirement

Coffee morning

The annual coffee morning for Venie and Clare will be held on Thursday, October 3, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in St Bridget's Hall, Carnew in aid of Arklow Cancer Support group and Gorey Hospital, all welcome and bring a friend.

Coolboy Community field AGM

Coolboy Community field will hold their AGM on Sunday, October 20, at 7 p.m. in the parish hall, all welcome.


Congratulations to our intermediate hurlers who won their final against Barndarrig last week, to the under-13 footballers who won their final in Ballinakill.


Carnew annual ploughing match will be held on Saturday, October 12, in Coolboy on lands kindly sponsored by Kevin Doran, to enter contact Kevin at 087 6732437.

Cookery demonstration

There will be a cookery demonstration in aid of St Aidan's Services by Michelen star chef Derry Clarke at Seafield Hotel, Gorey on Thursday, October 10, at 8 p.m. Derry will be joined by local head chefs Ramen Kumar of Seafield. Val Murphy on the Ashdown. William Miller of the Amber Springs. Enter a draw to sit at the testing table for the dishes cooked on the night. Raffle prizes include dinner for two in Derry's L'Ecrivan Restaurant. Meal for two in the Rowan Tree Restaurant in the Ashdown. Dinner for two in the Seafield. A luxury hamper. Tinahely Walking Club

The following are the walks for the next two weeks for Tinahely Walking club. October 6: Kaideen. Level B, 10km, three hours. Meet Tinahely 10 a.m. or Michel Dwyer car park 10.30 a.m. October 13: Railway Walk/Tomnafinnoge. Level C, 10km, 3.5 hours. Meet Railway car park Tinahely 11 a.m.

The next bingo in St Bridget's Hall, Carnew is on Sunday, October 6, and 20, all money raised will go towards the hall renovation fund, thanks to everyone for their support to date it is greatly appreciated.

Split the Pot

The lucky winner of €279 in our split-the-pot draw for Scoil Aodan Naofa Carnew was Tommy Doyle. Congratulations. The seller's prize was won by Libby Byrne, who won a €10 voucher for Victors and the lucky-dip winner was John Collins. Next draw is Friday, October 4. Thank you for all the support.

Ballyellis NS Split the Pot

Winner of split-the-pot on Friday, September 27, was Pádraig Cooper, Ballyconran - winning €167. We thank everyone for supporting split-the-pot. Envelopes can be obtained from the School or any parent and from Ashling Walsh after Sunday Mass in Askamore Church. Draws will take place every Friday morning in Ballyellis School. Vintage Club

At a meeting of the club on last Wednesday night, a full financial report was presented form our vintage day which outlined the great success it was, further to that it was agreed that our 2020 Vintage day Event would be held on Sunday, October 13.

Following further discussion it was agreed to hold our Vintage Car and Tractor Run on Sunday, October 27, starting from Coolgreany a midday and travelling towards Arklow, around by Johnstown, towards Aughrim and back by Wicklow Gap, and returning to Coolgreany. This should be a very interesting and enjoyable afternoons drive.

Ivy Day

At 1 p.m. next Sunday, October 6, there will be short ceremony in the Parnell Memorial Park to mark the anniversary of the death of Charles Stewart Parnell, who died on October 6, 1891. Since 1991 the RDA have organised a tribute to Parnell on the anniversary of his death.

This year's guest speaker will be Margaret Connolly, author of 'When the Devil ate the tinker', a book detailing some of the history of Aghowle. Margaret will lay a wreath at the Parnell monument and a minute's silence will be observed following the 'last post' played by Brendan Cullen on bugle.

The community of Rathdrum is invited to the park on Sunday for this short but fitting tribute to the 'Uncrowned King of Ireland'.


Results of last whist are: Top score - M Whelan and S Brady; second place - M Haughton and B Kelly; third place - M Rattray and B Farrell and fourth place - M Haughton and M Cowman. Raffle winners were B Kennedy, B Farrell and M Cowman. The next whist drive will be held tonight - Wednesday, October 2, at 8 p.m. in the Anne Devlin Annex, RDA Hall.
